The Levenmouth Reconnected Programme has allocated £360,000 towards Fife Heritage Railway’s proposed Conservation Building at its site at Kirkland.
The new steel framed and clad building will allow public display and access to trains, train restoration and storage, and is a main thrust of FHR’s Business Plan to enhance facilities and improve the quality of destination and visitor experience.
The project is also part of the overall development plan for the Heritage Railway which includes the use of the new former Network Rail site offices, bringing other LRP partners into the area, increasing activity in this area and linking in with the new active travel network.
Not only is the group looking to increase its volunteering opportunities, the building will be a key offering in Levenmouth in terms of tackling skills gaps, developing young people and providing opportunities for all ages and abilities in terms of leisure and social interaction.
The total cost of the project is likely to be around £480,000, and applications to other sources of funding are in progress to ensure work can start as soon as possible.
