"What new information came to light?" I'm gonna put a tinfoil hat on and suggest this: The Ponga saga. Fifita was being offered 200k less, so in order for Fifita's move to be worth it, third party deals had to have been a part of it. Once the NRL investigates Ponga's case, they also have to investigate Fifita's case because of an outlier change in his value. So Fifita stays at Titans and keeps quiet about the conditions of the move and take whatever criticism the public gives.

Six weeks ago Rothfield wrote an article showing that the Roosters could not come close to fitting their roster under the salary cap. Former roosters player Braith "Nick Politis is my friend and mentor" Anasta got angry and insisted that everyone plays at the Roosters for less money. Since that time, Rothfield has done a 180 degree turn. When the Fifita story broke, Rothfield claimed that the Roosters now had a $4m war chest from 3 1/2 players (who played for peanuts of course) leaving. It's not hard to guess why Rothfield has folded like a silk hankie.

The evidence is their roster, which could not possibly be fitted in under the $11.65m salary cap. Tedesco $1.1m (contract signed at the peal of his career.) Tupou $0.4 Suallii $0.7m Manu $0.9m Dom Young $0.5m Keary $0.9m Walker $0.4m (recently said to be negotiating an upgrade to $1m per season) Radley $0.7m Creighton $0.7m Collins $0.9m (just extended) JHW $0.9m Brandon Smith $0.9m Spencer Leniu $0.7m That is $9.7m in just 13 players, putting Sam Walker in at a low rate. That leaves $1.95m under the salary cap for 15 other players. The minimum figure under the salary cap from the RLPA is $130k, and 15 x $130k = $1.95m. Does anyone think players like the Butcher brothers, Connor Watson, Tupouniua and Billy Smith are ALL on the bare minimum? Of course they aren't, so the players in the table must be on much less, which would be way under their market value. If any Roosters supporter would like to show how they fit into a $11.65m salary cap with realistic salaries I'm all ears.
