When I first listened to Decalcomanie, it also wasn't my cup of tea until I saw them performing it live and at their concerts... Just, Wow. It's definitely a song that grows on you, esp since they always perform it at festivals/events and the absolute charisma and attitude they bring to the song, you can't help but love it. Now, everytime I hear that classic "knock knock knock" sound that plays at the beginning of Decalcomanie, I get excited and start singing with them 😂

Décalcomanie is definitely a song that grows on you, especially when you see it with the full choreo. I also didn't like it much at first and now, it's one of my favorite MMM songs ever. Also, if you already love Yes I Am this much, just wait until you read the lyrics! Also, you'll be happy to know, they choreographed Yes I AM THEMSELVES, ALL of it. They left some of the footage of it at the beginning of the dance practice! It's awesome. I'd say dance practices for your next video, because dance practices = them being crackheads, lol (while nailing the choreo). You could watch Yes I Am, You're the Best and Starry Night dance practices. Thanks for always feeding us great MMM content. Do you consider yourself a MooMoo yet? "you're the best" got the girls their first music show wins, as someone else pointed out. it's when they started hitting mainstream popularity instead of just being considered 'those quirky girls who sing really well'. i mean, they were (and are) still that, but now the mainstream kpop fans started taking notice, for both good and ill. the mvs were filmed in vietnam... and yes, mvs plural. there was a 'one-shot' followcam performance video shot in the same building, several bits of which were used in the other official mv. also, as someone pointed out, in the behind the scenes on mmmtv it was revealed that solar fell in the pool during filming... our poor yeba the bit with wheein doing the 'hold on a moment' gesture while eating was some of their usual playfulness coming through, as in the live (and album) version, she has a line there. but in the mv is too busy eating, so telling them to let her finish the guy in the mv is actually a member of their junior/brother group, vromance. they're the second oldest of rbw's groups and are quite similar to mamamoo in a lot of ways, primarily being a vocals-heavy quartet. their popularity, sadly, hasn't taken off like that of the other rbw groups and they're currently on hiatus as most of the members are doing their mandatory military service. a seriously amazing quartet to check out sometime, though, if you'd like one interesting thing about the promotions for this song, many of the outfits they wore to the live shows were designed by the fans. a lot of fans submitted suggestions, many of which were selected and turned into actual outfits. one of their performances in one of these outfit sets also freaked the station's security out because the girls did something never done before... for their encore performance, they actually left the stage and rushed into the audience to perform and celebrate among their fans (and even went to cheer on the fans of the group they were up against) "yes i am" also got a ton of attention and wins and is very much both a female and self-empowerment anthem. one of many in their discography. the lyrics, written by the girls themselves, are all about the ways they don't fall into korean norms, esp beauty standards, and how that's actually a good thing. it's them celebrating their unique aspects, such as solar's chubby cheeks or moonbyul's preference for more 'masculine' clothing. hwasa's line in her rap, "me me, 4 with the sun" is a great summation of that, though she had to explain that one... if you translate each word from english into korean, the phrase 'four with the sun' translates all together into 'saranghae'... so she's saying " me me, i love you". that basically became a battle cry after the song was released and is still used quite frequently by fans one of my favorite music show appearances from this era is actually one where they won against blackpink... and not because they won (i mean, as a fan, i'm always happy when they win) but because of what happened afterwards. they went over to console blackpink and cheer them, to encourage them. i wish fans actually paid attention to this kind of stuff, watched the groups interact because they're all obviously big fans of each other... instead of constantly doing all the stupid fanwar bullshit

honestly, for crackhead videos can just watch pretty much anything the girls are doing when they're together and not onstage... others have suggested a lot of good things already, though the part you "decalcomanie" during all their kissing scenes was indeed another song on the album. that was the title track of the album 'memory', the other song used in it is called either "memory" or "draw draw draw" depending on where you find it. it's very much a christmas-y song and has a soft christmas video. (many of their b-sides promoted alongside title tracks have mvs, but not all of them. and there are a few other b-sides that got mvs randomly, too) the "decalcomanie" mv itself has a few things going on in it. first off, the word is a french word for an art style that is also where the english word 'decal' originally came from, it's about transferring art/designs from paper to other materials (usually porcelain or glass, but also used with furniture). the term apparently started getting used in korea for couples or the like starting to look like each other when spending a lot of time together (a sort of hint towards that was done with the mirror scenes with solar/wheein and moonbyul/hwasa mirroring each others dances in the mirror) there's also a concept in south korea about women blossoming after a first kiss and that's what much of the mv was about. the four girls wanted to see what this was all about so went on a hunt together, all picking the same prey and making him think he was the one preying on them so they'd get what they wanted. that's also why the random seeming blindfold and fruit bits during the kissing scenes. very much full of innuendo there. supposedly the actor was picked specifically because he was gay and the girls would feel more comfortable with him but they were still pretty awkward, esp wheein, who later even made fun of herself for it (there was also a funny bit of byul releasing his tie and walking away like 'okay, we're done here' after they called 'cut' during her kissing scene)

Real talk Fifi; how long is your Mamamoo favourites list now? :') I swear these girls can't miss, so many bops! As others have said the snippet in Décalcomanie that you liked is Memory (which is also the title of the album it's from) I have a feeling the album is right up your alley - maybe not the ballads as I know they're not your favourite but it's Mamamoo so who knows lol - but Memory, Moderato, New York, and Dab Dab definitely seem like songs you could vibe with. Also, I feel like listening to Décalcomanie is a total different experience to hearing it in the MV because while the cringe-inducing part is shot well and they look stunning, it definitely takes you out of that build up imo. The behind-the-scenes of that part is gold though, Moonbyul yeeting away from the guy as soon as they cut is everything lmao. I'm sure someone else has already said but the live versions of it are *chef's kiss*
