Follow along my journey as I document my experience of getting a FIFO Job and what it is actually like in reality when you get one of these FIFO Roles. I try and be as honest as possible and don’t sugarcoat things. Say it as it is and give my personal opinion on each thing.
Moved over from Ireland with no experience and managed to get a FIFO job working 3:1s. (3 weeks on and 1 week off)

Do you have any advice on how to get in a role for a quick cash grab? I'm 31 and have no mines experience, but I've been a stone masons labourer, so I'm all good with hard work.. I have been applying online to a bunch of mines for offsider positions as thats all I really see for entry level and haven't heard back, honestly just want to do a few years at most so I really don't care how bad the work is, I just want to save on rent and work hard to stack up some cash for a while.

You first of all needa figure out if you can get a visa that allows you working rights in Australia. Where are you from bud?

@calmcilwaine I have a kiwi passport, so got full work rights here. I have a whitecard from working as a labourer but that was over five years ago, I'd gone overseas for a few years working online as a freelancer, but for last two years I've been in Aus only working as a bike delivery person (food apps) because I got a bit sick of being stuck behind my laptop all day.. I think my lack of recent relevant references is not doing me good, but honestly had only applied for drillers offsider positions I didn't know what else I could go for with no trade skills. Cheers.

​@@Jimsimi do a 1 day course as a telehandler operator. Then apply to either linkforce or monadelphous as a telehandler operator. That's the quickest way I can think of. You'll have to do a few other box ticking short courses but you'll be doing those either way.

Hey mate thanks for the comment. So your firstly gonna needa look up if you can get over on the working holiday visa, either 417 or 462. Thats your first step to see if you can actyally get the working rights to head to australia. Once you have that confirmed then let me know and ill help ya through it all. Did mining 14yrs; easiest work. Best pay, but the repetition and some mines are toxic af. Blokes who have no life experience. I would not recommend and would not do again.

And people like me who have done a few years of FIFO mine work. Just think you chose to be there so just stop whinging on the Internet like all the others sook's and get on with it. @calmcilwaine OK. I get that, but You didn't really explain that you did it to warn people about what they're getting into. You just said the negatives of FIFO. I've had some of the best times of my life with mates in mine camps. Especially if you can get out onto the country around you. Money wasn't that good when I did mine work and it is the most dangerous work I've ever done as well. Goods an bads. Stay safe mate.
