Interesting that the Previous Winner's Score from last time was the target to get on the Finals Board in that episode (this time). Wonder how often that happened.

While I have no doubt that William G Stewart was a talented person on the producing side, he doesn't seem to be suited to a presenting role, he appears to have zero people skills. My mum appeared on the show in the late 90s and she said he didn't talk to any of the contestants off-screen and he just went away between takes. You could argue that it's a 'formal' quiz show but then again so is mastermind but the presenter still has people skills.

Alex Battersby I like his no-nonsense approach. Ultimately he’s just doing a job I suppose and idle chit chat was of no interest to him. I hope your mum enjoyed herself nonetheless!

I prefer his no nonsense approach. Hes not wasting time and getting straight to the point. I Cant stand the current preenter on the current series Sandy Tolvig shes annoying and has zero talent

Don't know about your mum's experience, perhaps Stewart was a bit icy off-air. In some cases, I know that hosts are discouraged from speaking or getting too friendly with the contestants, lest there be accusations of favoritism. This wasn't a show that permitted a lot of friendly banter, 30 minutes was barely enough time to dispatch with fourteen contestants and end the game, so there probably wasn't much time for Stewart to chat with contestants anyway.

@@andrewhayes5130 - I appeared on 15-to-1 in 2003, and found him to be rather frosty in his manner... Whilst that's not a bad thing in terms of the flow of the show, the show took considerably a lot longer than 30 minutes to film, and he was aloof for for most of it, and it led to a rather uncomfortable atmosphere on set between takes... When I later reappeared on the show in 2015, I thought Sandi Toksvig was a good host as she was relaxed and friendly when the cameras were off, but just the right side of stern (but with a dry, tongue in cheek sense of humour) when filming was in session... I certainly disagree with Sexy Dudeuk, it's an absurd claim to make that Sandi Toksvig has "zero talent" - that's simply not true!
