Thank you so much!!!! You answered my question why I had 6 vacuum lines and 7 spots open. I didn't know the red coming from the temp control was blocked!!! Nice explanation!!

Damn this is really going to help me out! I have a 1986 Gran Fury which appears to have most of the same issues that your car has that you have been discussing in your videos. Thanks for posting!

I had my dad's brand new 1985 Plymouth gran fury in 84, it was silver with dark blue crushed velvet interior with a full blue vinyl top, it was beautiful, and I use to wax it every week for my dad, I'm watching this cause I have a 99 dodge ram van 1500 prime time conversion van, the rubber grommet that let's the vacuum lines through the firewall, the lines on the interior are fine and still playable, but in the engine compartment the lines are all broken off, so no start, if it does start it runs like crap, your video here, the lines are similar, so I ordered the 7/64th washer line, I'm going to knock the grommet out and just wrap em in electric tape and patch em all, thanks for the video.

The car is coming along nicely, Tyler. I know you will enjoy the properly functioning heat with colder weather coming soon. I have enjoyed this video series.

Great video. My connection has totally fell apart to little pieces. I just got this car and I'm just overwhelmed. I like my 87 gran fury. I'm in the middle of changing the Timing chain now.

Great video! Thanks for sharing I have this exact issue. Quick question, maybe I missed it.. did you replace that connector where all the vacuum lines fed in or was there a way to directly connect the hoses to the control head in the dash. Thank you!

Haha at the "streetz is still callin'". If memory serves me right, it was project heavy Chevy the tan Caprice coupe, that you found the album streetz is callin by future in it
@TylersNeighborhoodGarage7 жыл бұрын
That's exactly right. The streetz were callin' when I had the Caprice here and now they appear to be callin' again...lol.

Hi Tyler, that must be the same problem with mine i got no heat. i did not change heads with 4bbl, but it runs well, slight hesitation on take off but works much better, i think i need a better exhaust on it too. my car has no lean burn anymore its got orange box ignition on it. i also have the oxblood interior in cloth in mine.

A very, very similar HVAC controller is also used on the Dodge trucks of the era. I'll be doing this job soon on my Ramcharger, I'm curious how similar it is back there.

I think they used them in nearly everything from about 1980-93.

Man oh man Tyler. My 5th ave is a disaster all through the dash. The windshield has been leaking for years. Im finally getting it resealed. It was done before but it didnt take. Lately i have had all sorts of things going haywire because of the constant moisture and age. I keep having random systems work then not work. Fuses blowing on different Circuits almost daily. The other night i only wiggled the fuses box while it was still secured even and fuses blew and stuff sparked. I dont even know where to begin straightening this out. I guess first getting the windshield done. But after that... Ffffeeewww. Hahah. My gauges all full of mildew even. What a mess. Rest of the car is good tho. Although i think my 7 1/4 is on its way out.

Been through the same exact thing several times. The connector fell apart. We used some short pieces of rubber hose. Had to look up a diagram and label them too.
@TylersNeighborhoodGarage7 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why it is just THAT single connector. The lines on both sides of it remain intact.
@orlandokaraoke30027 жыл бұрын
Tyler's Neighborhood Garage between dad and me we have probably owned 10 different imperials diplomats and 5th avenues. That same connector has always failed. Sometimes crumbling to mere dust. We always find one good one to clip into the button panel and replace the one at the other end of it with some short pieces of rubber hose. But yeah been there done that at least 5 times. Cheers, your videos alwways help! Especially the Carter Carb ones.

Hate working under dashes' but it always seems old car -dash issues I use testers glow in the dark red on my gauges I spent a ton of time building my dash on my 78 k10 Chevy .but it was worth it getting to old for some of this b.s.on these old cars/trucks but its still fun at the end of the day😅

You should install that idiotic system that says "Your head lights are on" and "Don't forget your keys" among other things. I'm kind of surprised those talking warning systems didn't take off, but part of me is glad they didn't. But I do know of one incident where It might have been nice. I was driving my moms car. All of the sudden chimes sounded and like 6 warning lights came on. I thought for sure the engine quit and I turned it off while driving. Oops. Turns out it was a tired wheel bearing. A system like that could have made the experience less horrific. It was a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero that seemed like everything you could name went out on. Stuff like a knob breaking on the HVAC to like 2 or 3 head gaskets. I lost count of how many times the brakes had a problem. Another noteworthy experience was I had that car on the interstate one time going to and from an oil change. The speedometer dropped like a rock or it sounded like the engine was gong to blow. No maintaining 70 MPH. I took the car home and got in my tough as nails Corolla for the rest of my errands that day. I guess the best thing I can say about that car is it never stalled. I don't think that many lights come on for a test in an average Toyota. That's the brand all 3 of us drive now.

That’s awesome. Great video minus the loud shitty music those guys thought everyone needed to hear. Lol.

Mike Skipworth -- I was behind someone at a stop light this afternoon. The driver had his jungle music turned up SO LOUD that his rear license plate was violently bouncing up and down like it was about to fly off the car. SMFH. I'm still in my 20s and even as a younger guy, I cannot for the life of me understand this infatuation with hood culture. Slammed suspensions, obnoxiously loud exhaust systems, bone-jarring amplifiers... none of that makes you or your ride unique at all. It's not even a "counter coulture" lifestyle either because everyone does that shit these days, but don't tell them that. They just go along with it all like they're some sort of pioneer. Quite frankly, twerps who do that need to grow the fuck up and fast.

Jake from State Farm I had a sub in my old 94 Ford. Basically to take the bass off the component speakers. I had it where I could really enjoy my music, but there was no real thumping. I listen to old rock for the most part. Stuff I like to hear and play. I don’t know how these people can enjoy the bass and those big subs. If it rattles the window in my house, it’s too fucking loud. Point blank. I have 100 watts sitting upstairs on 2 12” speakers. I throw the coal to it and strike an E chord, guaranteed cops will knock at my door. Highs transmit better than lows, and the guitar is pretty much a vocal range instrument. Yet, skinny white kid in a Buick can drive by any time and rattle my windows. Advantage of being mobile, I guess. Tyler, I wasn’t being critical of you in the comment. Apologize if it read that way. Lots of noise pollution in that big town. Little quieter to the west about an hour where I grew up. You can’t help the environmental noise and you do a phenomenal job educating us on how to fix this stuff. I’ll be looking about a Dodge Ram soon. About time to put it in the garage and start wrenching. You’re one of my favorites on here. My way of agreeing and showing I watched the very end. I’ve got a few new uploads. I’m a horrible teacher, but I get asked to teach. Finally figured out why I couldn’t upload. Been a good couple days.

Really enjoying all the videos on this Plymouth so far, looking forward to seeing the other first fixes. I've noticed really the only blemish on the immaculate interior is that the steering wheel is faded, any plans on painting or replacing it?

thanks, it's dirty, not faded.

The way that AC compressor is cycling in and out it looks like the system is low on refrigerant so the pressure is dropping away and the compressor is kicking out. Refill the refrigerant and you should be OK, the AC probably hasn't been run for a while due to that control issue so the refrigerant has depleted...

gosportjamie Easier said than done, in an 80s car. R12 isn't exactly easy to come by.

+AgamemnonTWC I got the impression from some other channels that R12 refrigerant was still available in the US. Obviously if it isn't then it's not going to be such an easy repair as the system may have to be converted to run the new refrigerant which could be expensive...
@AgamemnonTWC7 жыл бұрын
It really isn't still available here. Technically you can buy it if you have specific certifications, because it's still used in some appliances and HVAC systems, but it's very expensive and very tightly regulated and I believe they even require reporting of where the stuff goes, so you couldn't just bribe somebody who can legally buy it to put some in your car. Getting certified unless you're in the HVAC or refrigerant industry just isn't remotely cost effective either, as I understand. Your best chance for getting R12 here is to find some cans on Craigslist that somebody has had in their garage since 1988.
@TylersNeighborhoodGarage7 жыл бұрын
Something's going on with it. It's been "converted" incorrectly, and I see leak dye around the rear of the compressor.
