The death toll from the Laos methanol poisoning tragedy continues to grow, with another tourist from the group who partied in Laos dying overnight.
It comes after Australian teenager Bianca jones was taken off life support, while her friend Holly Bowles is still fighting for life.

It's sad this happens. It's a education problem of distillation that methonal is not removed. Methonal has a lower boiling point than ethonal. When distilling methonal comes out first should be collected in a separate vessel so it is not mixed in with ethanol. It's easy to check which is which by burning on a tea spoon if it's methanol it will have a yellow flame if it's ethanol it will be blue or clear

@@tomtom2356 I disagree. Like anywhere you haven't visited before, do some research first. Learn a little language, learn some customs, and learn some dos and don'ts. I've visited Laos several times and ridden a motorbike solo all over the country without a problem. It's a beautiful place and the people are very kind and friendly.

I partied in Vang Vieng, Laos in 2022. Stayed in the same hostel Nana's as the girls. It's a safe place and a beautiful town, this is such a random tragedy.

Very sad! 😢 also sad that countries exploited by capitalism and brutal colonialism today have their local poor people desperately needing to rely on anything to “make money”. Selling things that are dangerous to “make ends meet”. Exploitation of tourism on those areas is also a huge problem. Privileged people (from colonising countries) using those places/exploited countries to “get high” at any cost. Peace be with the teen’s family and all poor people having to endure life under our economic system constantly in crisis.

A lot of spots in SE Asia are way more relaxed with drinking laws & prices. Australia is one of the most expensive countries in the world to drink in. It's also way cheaper to do holiday activities like renting boats, island hopping & just about everything else you can imagine. Not to mention experiencing different cultures & food. It's not for everyone, but it's a unique experience you won't find in Australia & it's generally pretty safe.

I'd never allow my 19yo daughter to travel to Laos/Thailand with just another female friend. I wouldn't even allow it with a male friend. It's terrible to say that this all could have been avoided with responsible parenting. They're both young. What did their parents think they were going to do over there?
