I would say this is the best video on youtube on tuning and break in. I've watching this video multiple times while breaking in my redcat mt and xb and learn something new each time. I just recently bought a zenoah g320rc motor and I'm currently breaking it in. The stock hy32cc motors on both my redcats are trash. Killed both of them shortly after break in. Maybe 3 hours of operating time on each and they both lost compression and stopped cranking. ...i'm hoping for better success with the zenoah motors because now I'm about $2000 into this hobby between vehicles, tools, and motors. I'm addicted though so....oh well. Thanks again for the awesome video. Once I learn a little more about OBR motors I hope to upgrade soon. Thumbs up!

Great tutorial on how to break in an engine and tune the carbs. One question that never seems to crop up, is what the gap should be for the spark plug in thousands of an inch. Surely, if the spark plug gap is too wide or to narrow, it will make a difference as to how the engine performs.

great vid. so awesome to see a proper vid on the most questions on carbs, engine break in and tuning. Just one question as said below on the heat cycling, do you run the 3 heat cycles during low throttle, 3 heat cycles at half throttle, 3 cycles at full throttle then start tuning or 15 minutes once at low throttle, 15 minutes once at half throttle, 15 minutes once at full throttle then start tuning. Thanks again for the vid. will really help me out.

The Wt-1107 and Wt-1242 were not out when this video was made. Starting settings for a Wt-1107 are 1 1/4 low and 1 3/4 high and Wt-1242 1 turn out on the low and 1 1/2 high.

is there a stock setting for the idle screw on a 990? I purchased a new full mod 30.5 from your site a few months ago and I'm having issues with getting it running. It has not been broken in yet. I followed your instructions on setting the HSN and LSN, but it still wouldn't start, so I switched out the 990 with a my old 668. Now it's firing, but won't stay on. I had to turn the idle screw all the way in to get it to fire. I plan to put the 990 back on and use a new plug...any suggestions? thanks

17:50: I didn’t really notice anything that sounded like popping compared to when it was tuned. Could I please get a little more in depth about being too lean? Sorry I just couldn’t see or hear how it was different. Thanks! 👍
@richardmiddleton77702 жыл бұрын
Not sure about the popping either but it will sound empty and tinny and may even bog down when accelerating. Then when it comes back to idle the revs will stay high till it settles (providing the low end is OK but the high is lean), if the low is lean it will bog down or even quit when opening the throttle quickly from idle, it'll also be hard to start.

28 to 1 - that’s what I plan to run in mine! (Maxima K2) - 43cc, not as “screamy” as these, though. I was thinking, “these turn kart-engine revs, so they want kart-racing mix - 16 to 1 or so.” Was taught with chainsaws, “richen it till it blubbers under load, then lean it out until it *just* stops.” Also, with these engines, you’ll want to adjust the carb *frequently,* as temperature and changing air density (and possibly, phases of the moon) seem to affect mix requirements.

Dear, Dan, can you do a video on the different sizes of intake manifolds and how they fit (and won't fit) specific 2-stroke, fifth-scale RC engines? In my toolbox, I have a bone-colored intake manifold from the air filter that fits on my Rovan engine but won't fit the engine on my Redcat engine. I searched KZbin but couldn't find any videos on manifolds for our fifth-scale hobby. Please help. By the way, your carburetor tutorial is a major reference for me. It continues to be for years.

I have also heard people tuning with the wheels up off the ground, with the throttle pegged and they move the needle to listen to the engine and the dance between lean and rich, once they find center, they go just to the rich side of the middle. Is there any validity to that? Or does it have to be under load?

What temperature should my motor run at when it's fully broken in?
@oneillbrothersracing11 жыл бұрын
Originally that was the idea. The extra fuel provided by the accelerator pump actually causes a lag on the bottom end though. If you want a responsive bottom end a 668 or 990 is the way to go.
@richardmiddleton77702 жыл бұрын
You can richen the low end to reduce the lag. The problem is the air shoots in, going from idle to full throttle, before the fuel has chance to catch up.
