It seems like most people like 1 and 2 and hate 3 and 4 but I actually like 3 and 4 the best. The extremely over the top, Leslie Nielsen type humor makes me laugh whereas the Wayans movies just seem to have the same shitty jokes as the rest of these parody movies, only they were the first ones to do them. I'd put it in the same category as Scott Pilgrim v. the World. It takes tropes from a lot of different things and puts them together to tell a funny, but ultimately sincere, story. It's not really making fun of them as much as celebrating them.

Given Marlon Wayans track record with creating comedies, people should assume that any movie he is in would get a dogshit rating before they even watch it. He is the Uwe Boll of comedy. Everything he has made was a struggle for me, as a moviegoer, to get through. I find Schindler's List more funny and less painful to watch than the tripe that he makes. After watching him in his first "Haunted House" film I lost all faith in him. He has tarnished the Wayans family name, which was once a respected name in comedy.

SM1 was solid..but who can forget the "strong hand" and the part with, "my germs!"..... Classic....then 3 was decent. It hadn't yet drifted to awfulness. You hot the nail on the head. Movies like Airplane spoof an entire genre and all of the cliches that eventually became an essential part of that genre. It seems lately that the only good spoofs are of horror movies. Not the shit like Haunted House, but the homage and good nature of films like Cabin in the Woods and Shaun of the Dead. Airplane still wins for me. And pretty much anything Mel Brooks does is fantastic.

For spoof movies, either Evil Dead 2, Monty Python's Holy Grail (if that counts, I'm really not sure what it's spoofing) or Hot Shots. Airplane is pretty up there too.

Can't decide between Airplane and Spaceballs so for my favorite I'll go with... Hot Fuzz, which is not a spoof of any given movie, but of the whole "80/90's buddy cops action movies". And it's a blast. I could kind of choose any one from the Cornetto Trilogy, but Fuzz is my favorite of the bunch.

Galaxy Quest hands down #1 best spoof, but for scene for scene parody, Dracula Dead and Loving it wins for me because it recreated scenes from several different Dracula movies and it worked!

The funny thing is, Airplane! actually IS almost a scene-for-scene remake of the movie it's spoofing: a 1957 airplane drama called Zero Hour. :)

Space Balls is one of a few good spoofs. That Robin Hood parody with Cary Elwes is also quite funny, imho...
