It's called emotional development and a bit of mental rewiring. He was abused and neglected as a toddler and then sexually abused and groomed as a teen into adulthood. He thought it was the way he had to be and all he knew. When he meets Ana he's immediately drawn to her and develops feelings he doesn't understand or feels worthy of and resist them. When she leaves he realizes he wants her more than the lifestyle and makes an effort to learn how to deal with those emotions and have a loving relationship. It takes time, and he makes mistakes, but over the trilogy, he does get there.

That’s why the trilogy is the only way to watch it. His psychopathy becomes evident as the trilogy reveals his past and struggle with emotional pain caused by abuse. His use of BDSM is a coping mechanism but just watching the first of the trilogy and not the rest gives a misrepresentation to it.
@Rohit-ij6eh2 жыл бұрын
@@nancy9891 very true... people didn't even watched the full trilogy 🤦🤦
@frankathl12 жыл бұрын
@@nancy9891 While I think your comments are to the point, you must remember that audience members buy a ticket to a single movie, not 2 or 3, which were anyway some time away in the future at that point. At the very least, FSoG should have attempted to fill in some of Christian Grey’s background in order to suggest the source of his proclivities. The most serious error committed by the first film is that CG, as portrayed by Jamie Dornan, is not a dominant as understood by the BDSM world, and it is only his financial position and social status that can be said to give him any power. In fact, his frequent pleading with Anastasia shows that he is confusing a BDSM relationship with an everyday, romantic, so-called vanilla relationship, thus appearing whiny rather than dominating, and succeeding only in shifting the balance of the power dynamic in favour of Anastasia. As a result, it is perfectly understandable why Ana is so very confused: a proper dominant would/should have made it clear where the boundaries lay. Given all of this, lines such “you’re all mine”, become scr*tum-tightenly embarrassing and inappropriate because they lack the proper context. This is part of the reason why the first instalment in this series is a failure, the only takeaway being the developing bond(yep) between the two leads, whose behaviour outside of the movie proper suggested to many fans that they had fallen for each other(some of the fan movies I’ve seen on YT are remarkably convincing). At the least, I am happy to believe that they cared for and protected each other during what they both have said was a very difficult shoot. I have not seen the second and third movies, so cannot comment on the outcome of the trilogy.

The fact that this movie got so famous is concerning. It really normalises abuse, in the guise of a 'damaged' man with a 'difficult' childhood who a girl needs to "understand, sympathise with, and mould herself for". Hurt people hurt people folks. You can't change someone like this, no one has the skills to do that, true love doesn't make a husband out of a piece of crap, selfish, disturbed human being. Young women influenced by movies like this are going to be unable to distinguish abuse from love and are very likely to end up in horrific situations.

@Hairynibba777 Жыл бұрын
This doesn't normalise anything its not implying for men to go through a abusive and traumatic past to become sadistic pain inflictor to women because of their birth mom plus in this story Ana is portrayed as a powerful woman who was able to fix a deeply broken man to a happy family man, i mean watch 50 Shades Freed the title speaks for itself which what makes 50 shades a good fantasy trilogy but realistically almost all women can't really fix men like this its just entertaining fantasy thats why its so good.

The one thing we forget he was abused by his mother's friends and pimps. So how is he suppose to consider women as someone to trust? However, his stepmother was loving and caring unless she wasn't there that much because she was a professional doctor putting in long hours. I can’t get over the fact that he got mad because she was visiting her MOM and didnt tell him. And had the AUDACITY to show up during the visit! Like bruh! She visited her mom to get some perspective on her relationship bc her bf is too controlling and possessive and HE HERE COMES! Proving that he’s too controlling and possessive! He changed (but did he?) for her but cmon. She shouldve ran at the first red flag.

In the book Christian was so much more “less cold” and actually had a sense of humour. In the book they slept together in the same bed and he felt more at ease around Ana, whilst in this movie it all seems very off.... I don’t know why

356 can eat it. I'm sorry for all the Fifty Shades flaws from the books to the movies, it's still far superior to 365 Days! If I hear or see, " Are you lost baby girl." One more time! Well that's BS! Lots of women put up with toxic, controlling men, and believe me, they're not all hot as fuck millionares! You'd also be surprised by how many people embrace the BDSM lifestyle, and don't consider it toxic or abusive. Do some research before judging, and may I suggest that you read the books also. Their relationship was actually NEVER about abuse......not in the usual meaning of the word anyway.

I don't find it cringey either. If you have read anything about dom/sub lifestyle you understand that Ana in this case is truly the one with the power. She goes into this at first naive but quickly you can see that she understands the real power is hers. She begins to realize he is not "controlling" her for the sake of control, but to guard and protect her because after all he is very wealthy and that automatically gives him enemies and she could be a target. NO I don't live in a fantasy world but if your mate isn't willing to go the extra mile to protect you?

You have to understand the whole story for this part to make sense. They both grow and change and learn from each other. It's not really a toxic or abusive relationship although it may appear that way. This is a very interesting complex story.
@beckysam39133 жыл бұрын
Thats must be then a complete other book then, lol. Its still glorifying abuse.
@lauraclark923 жыл бұрын
Unless you have watched all 3 movies &/or read all of the books, you're probably not going to understand. Bdsm is not abuse, that's why a safe word is part of it, both parties are willing participants. Also there is a contract in the movie that Ana must agree to if it's implemented... Ana in this story is a very strong character, she gets stronger throughout the story, it's an interesting complex story. Sometimes it's beautiful, sometimes even funny, other times it's dark, or sad. Abusive though it's not, agree to disagree. It's not for everybody and that's ok. If this isn't for you then keep it moving and watch something you enjoy. (response to Becky Sam)
@beckysam39133 жыл бұрын
@@lauraclark92 lol, stop justifying abuse and exploitation by bringing in practices that require very specific rules and real consent without manipulation, which is a privilege most girls and women around the globe dont have. Its about patriarchic abuse and glorifying it.
@lauraclark923 жыл бұрын
@@beckysam3913 Look I'm not going to get into a debate with you. I've been on this planet long enough to know exactly what abuse is, all the types you name it...and I know what it isn't. This is just a story like the Notebook for example is a story, Harry Potter is a story... I know you don't know me but trust me if you did ... I would detest any movie or story that glorified abuse and exploitation. I wouldn't be able to watch it much less enjoy it. But I think E.L. James is brilliant, she wrote this story. I loved it. I own the books and the movies and they are cherished possessions. I just watched it again recently because I felt like it. I had a great time.... You are far from alone, there are many who don't understand this story, don't like this story, that feel it is of the devil, that feel it highlights and glorifies abuse or that it's about abuse and exploitation... ok everyone is entitled to their opinions. I'm not going to try to change your mind. Whose being abused in this story? Ana? Christian? Whose being exploited? Ana? (nope) The only abuse in this film is what happened to Christian when he was a child, that's why he has cigarette burns on his chest and can't stand to be touched there... Anyway, it's ok. I'm fine but sad when someone doesn't get it. It's so nice for those that do. You have your mind made up, that's ok, like I said it's not for everyone. I like Pretty Woman too, maybe that one? It's a classic now. Great story. Point of No Return, with Bridget Fonda, it's dark but another great story in my opinion... Have a nice night.
@lauraclark923 жыл бұрын
@@IamPatrickStar I'm not going to waste my time too much here. Firstly, it's a story, if you don't like it don't watch it or follow it on social media. It's really that simple. You seem to have some very strong opinions about the author...Secondly, you're putting words in my mouth that I didn't say and then insult me which is wow. Thirdly, if someone who is an adult is allowing something... then it's not abuse. With a child it doesn't matter if there is consent or not but with an adult, consent =not abuse. Ana in this story is an adult. There is a reason she allowed him to punish her in that part of the story then other things follow... but I digress... What exactly makes you such an expert on bdsm? It seems like your the one who needs to be educated. Either watch this or don't but it seems like you're watching parts of this and then having an opinion, sure if you take things out of context it's going to change your perception. This story can't be viewed like that, if you miss parts of it then no you won't get it and understand what's really happening in a different part of the story because you won't understand the context. That's ignorant. Then have the audacity to speak on it then insult someone (me) when you don't even know what you're talking about. Wow just wow. You're not even worth my time. It's obvious to me that you didn't understand the context of this scene. Don't come for me....
