Definitely pinch off the fruit from first year cuttings. Maybe even the second year as well. Root development should be focus #1 It will pay off in the long run. Thanks for video.

Nice video it’s funny how addicting figs are to grow must be because they taste so good. I like your orchard setup it’s similar to what I’m starting on. I can’t wait to see it when your trees are all big.

Eric Jiron couldn’t agree more. One of the most addicting hobbies I’ve taken part of. Would love to see some shots of your orchard :)

@@greenshootsnursery3213 All in 10 gallon SIPs. They are on my rooftop deck so get full, non-stop, all day sun and lots of wind, so that might be the issue. They are growing okay and have a decent amount of fruit, but just don't look anywhere as pretty and green as yours! My leaves are a lot more mangled haha. I think in SoCal with our long growing season/weather I probably need to root prune at least every other year if not yearly if I keep them in containers. I did notice my Unk Past completely filled the container with roots this season to the point where the leaves have all gone yellow from lack of water.

Exquisito doesn't mess around! I was wondering what that little one was doing in the ground, then you said it was BNR and then I understood... Nice tour Evan

At what point do you feel confident moving your cuttings into full sun all day. I had some cuttings with roots showings and since the weather was mild I thought i could avoid shock if I moved them into the sun before they leafed out. I ended up losing some. Total bummer. Checking out the failed cuttings I feel that the score cuts I made on the cutting contributed to the rot. I had some roots emerging from the cut but it’s also where the rot started. Next time I will follow Harvey’s advice and just take a little slice off the bottom of one or two sides. So far my best success rate has been with my 1 1/2 node experiments. 29 out of 30 are growing well. It will be interesting to see how they compare over the next few months.

Thanks for the video. Very informative! Several varieties I've never heard of. Funny how exciting growing fig trees can be. What's the deal with that?! My wife jokes with me that I should start a fig farm.

jybikerboy1 honestly, I never imagined I would get into figs and can’t believe how far the hobby has come. It’s been very satisfying to watch them grow from little sticks. You definitely should start a fig farm! Go big :)

Hello a couple of questions now that spring is among us, how do you feel about using the grow bags vs. plastic pots??? Do you see any dry spots when using the grow bags? What do you use as potting soil mix??? And what fertilizer regiment do you use?? Thank you hope your well. Thanks for your information be well GOD bless!
@greenshootsnursery3213
@greenshootsnursery3213 3 жыл бұрын
The grow bags have performed well but if we could do it all over again...we’d likely use plastic pots for our climate. Grow bags have been very cost effective though. We have a really good local company, which we’ve been using that makes a variety of excellent soils. The price is right and the quality is very high. We’re still experimenting with a fertilizer regimen but this year we’re planning to go the full growing season using a balanced 20-20-20 blend (jacks). Our trees began to break bud several weeks ago and we’ve already hit our trees with a diluted dose.

Hey Nick. I actually do not have BFF but I am acquiring it very soon. Hopefully next season I’ll be able to sample a few figs from it. I’ve heard mixed reviews on its productivity so far.

Productive for Harvey, yes. Others have said that theirs haven’t been as productive. Could be due to many factors but either way, I’m excited to try it out for myself.
