Not sure where you are in Pennsylvania but I'm outside Philadelphia. I will be picking my first fig tomorrow morning the 24th of July. I have Chicago Hardy trees planted in the back yard. This winter the plants did not die back to the ground and are growing like crazy. The one fig is about the only one that is ready. The rest are still green and developing. Good luck to you this season. Do you sell cuttings or plants?

Im over in cherry hill. For our area Chicago hardy in-ground is great

Sounds like you have a breba that ripened! It is a fig that developed from last year's wood. I sell cuttings in November and an occasional airlayer.

@@PAFigs How will I get in touch with you? Also, what are you doing about the virus on your one fig? How do you deal with it, or do you let it go?

Lovely orchard. I've been somewhat successful killing spotted lanternfly by dousing with a spray of rubbing alcohol. They seem drawn to a tough old Knock Out rose we have - and the rose was none the worse from the alcohol. The alcohol has directly killed some and others indirectly because they jump and fall off the plant and I get them with my shoe. I did use it on some of the figs but hosed them down quickly afterward - the leaves don't seem to have been affected by it. Rubbing alcohol is impossible to find these days and I'm thinking about buying some cheap high alcohol liquor to use. I wonder if it would be helpful to place decoy plants in a garden to help control the lanternfly.

I will have to check my knock out rose closely to see if they like mine!

I’m fortunate being in Oklahoma, still plenty of time to ripen figs. We got plenty of heat.

Hi, thank you for the interesting content! May I ask you to which size unpollonized figs will grow before they drop? Thank you in advance for your answer. Have a good day.
@PAFigs4 жыл бұрын
They will grow to their stagnant stage, which is normally the size of a quarter.

I have a Chicago Hearty I brought at Lowes March 2019. I planted it June 2019. This year I have 4 figs about the size of the fig you showed first. They have been around the same size for about a month. Does it take this long for them to ripen?
@PAFigs4 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is referred to as the Stagnant Stage. Figs will stay there for 30-60 days prior to suddenly swelling and ripening.
