I am fellow fig grower a couple hours north of you. I am really interested in what you have learned hand pollinating and if it is worth trying on main crop varities like Dessert King and Granthams.

I am in zone 6b, WV. I started about 10 cuttings in November 2023. They have grown well. My question is, can I plant these in ground this summer of 2024? I would cover them with leaves and a bucket for the winter this year. Do you think that they would survive inground.? I am not sure where I could store these figs during winter as I only have an unheated shed.

yes, I've planted newly rooted cuttings and they survive the winter. I always practice as much protection as you can. You want to keep some growth for the following year and you'll have ripe figs.

Musa basjoo. Many nurseries will have it. But only this one and Mekong Giant are cold hardy to my knowledge.
