⁠@@zom8680Lazy Shell won’t help out a lot in this super boss fight with the following attacks: Boulder, Solidify, Flare, Fire Wall, and these attacks if not Perfect Guarded: Storm, Dark Star, Blast, Ice Rock, Flame Sabre, Final Claw The devs didn’t want you to be too dependent on the Lazy Shell armour this time around, although it still helps better than the best armours sold.

They put his HP at 9999 for this fight and you either have to beat the crystals which total 11,070 HP (different amounts per crystal) or you fight culex TWICE cause he'll revive if he goes down before all the crystals do. But each crystal that breaks before he goes down will also buff the remaining crystals and culex... So it's essentially a "pick your poison" kind of battle. Definitely the toughest fight by far in any RPG Mario game imo.

So what I'm hearing is that you target Culex until he's at like 3k health and then target the Crystals so that when they explode, Culex is only a couple hits away from dying Or just spam multi-target moves

how was this fight hard? i was very disappointed by the easy difficulty like legit. culex and the crystals did no dmg to my team at all and mario was lvl 24 like the rest except for geno and mallow which were 29 and 26. the 2d variant was much harder for some reason.

If the lazy shell armor didn’t exist I’d be inclined to agree but I’d say there are a handful of tougher bosses from Mario RPGs. The one that instantly comes to mind for me is Bowser X from inside story. Ignoring how difficult the fight itself is, you need to go through multiple fights prior, you have limited items, AND you’re on a turn limit.

personally i do not use the lazy shell armor only the weapon but every culex 3D attack is extremely easy to perfect block. Mario has overall great stats, Mallow and Peach have both extremely high magic defense plus equippable armor which makes the whole fight even more easier. also the trio tech with geno and peach where you can shield the meteor attack completely is super broken. and if ur team is dying (which is unlikely here) just use the trio tech with mallow and peach which revives and heals everyone 100%. I agree there are much harder fights in other mario rpg's where you also have to grind for it. for 3d culex i had mallow lvl26, geno lvl29 and the rest lvl24 with good weapons@@dyla3814

I still remember Culex's dialogue from the SNES game; the English localization basically removed it completely, but originally his dialogue in JP was some silly fourth-wall-breaking comment about how he's this 2D sprite in a 3D world;; aside from SMRPG having that 3D iso art style, also remember this was the same time the Playstation was released. In EN he just said something like "this world is uninhabitable for me and my kind." It was great to see the remake in all regions not only finally paid homage to the original 2D/3D joke, but also Culex finally "getting with the times" in the postgame. Apparently going from 2D to 3D is one hell of a power boost lmao

That said this track was never "limited" by the SNES console because the original SNES version of this track from FFIV and the SNES Mario RPG remakes are the best versions of Battle 2 other than the DS remake's. Almost every other remake screwed this track up in some way.

the most of the change in this version is the drum part. It magically adds alots of layer to whole track. originally the drum set is go full blast at the beginning. this verion make it just do snare roll, slowly building up the tension.

@@Prodmullefc How does it feel to have such a bad take lol The instrumentation in the Endwalker version is chosen very deliberately for the first time you hear the song: vs Scarmiglione. He's sly, conniving, and a rat bastard, something that the saxophone in minor key is commonly associated with. Everything else is chosen to line it up with other FFXIV dungeon last boss themes to get your foot tapping and head bobbing while you avoid hectic AOEs and do your rotation. It's not grandiose because it's a dungeon boss, it's just meant to be a jam while you run your roulettes with the homies. My biggest issue with that song is they overused it after 6.2, and completely botched where they should've used it in 6.5 imo--the two FF4 bosses have Endwalker music and the original Endwalker boss has FF4 music.

The maximum HP you can give to an opponent in this game. The hardest-hitting spells in the entire-game, plus a highly-damaging physical attack for good measure. 4 cronies that also have hard hitting spells, as well as the ability to paralyze you via sleep or mushroomification. The ability to lock out certain parts of your moveset. Constantly on a 5-turn timer that launches a high-power attack that hits every member on your party that's out at the time for your maximum HP minus 1. Being able to *_revive at full health_* if you somehow take away all his health before you destroy his crystals. And if you destroy his crystals, he gets powered-up even further on all fronts, as well as gaining a OHKO attack. Add in an astounding remastered version of his original theme, and an amazing new 3D model, and we get a Culex fight that fits "superboss" to a T. After how manageable the 2D version was (beat that before heading into Weapons World), this was a stressful yet fun and rewarding challenge. Bravo Culex, even if I got spoiled on your rematch, you still managed to put up a great fight, one of the only real difficult ones in the game. Somehow, I didn't die to this guy though (beat him first try), yet I died countless times to the Johnny rematch and the Booster rematch. And those were the only times I even game-overed. Played on Normal, BTW.

The new wishes on Star Hill make it clear who's waiting a the end of the post-game boss scavenger hunt, but it never crossed my mind Culex would return in 3D. I entered his room with the Super Shiny Stone just to see how difficult the battle would be and was so taken aback by the surprise and this accompanying theme I teared up a bit, and right in front of my daughter too. I was 14 when the original came out and was never able to beat Culex then, today I beat this 3D version on my first try (in 34 turns, mind you). It was a really cool moment.

Anyway this is all very subjective. If you look at the DS pixel remaster of FF IV you can get a taste of electric guitar in the intro but the melody is still carried by a violin I think.

So.... Vanda is a localization only thing. There was no Vanda in the Japanese script. Meaning unless somehow the US localization trancends countries, sorta like how Robotnik became the canon last name for Eggman in Japan. I doubt Vanda will be a thing in a hypothetical sequel.

@@DataDrain02 Buddy you chose Eggman/Robotnik as an example of localization change making it back to japan (which didn't by the way he's never called Robotnik over there) instead of stuff like Earthbound Beginnings, FFX, or Kingdom Hearts?

@@DisplayThisOkay Look man, all I can say is. Robotnik IS his last name even in the Japanese version. I heard it clear as day when I played it in Japanese, Eggman called his grandfather "Gerald Robotnik" in Engrish. Therefore, his last name is canonically Robotnik. Furthermore, in Sonic Triple Trouble, the Robotnik Winters Zone has the same name in Japan as it does in the west. Also... those cases are a bit different. Since those are games with voice acting. The Japanese LOVE the KH dubs. (Mainly for the Disney voices.) As for FFX.... Not completely sure there. Might also be a liking the English version.

Can someone explain me this? I haven't played the new version, but in the battle videos I watched, I can clearly hear the music adds some extra percussion at some points (something like when in SMW you ride a Yoshi, the music adds percussion). What does this mean? Is it like a level up signal or something?

It’s when you land a perfect action command. The more perfect action commands you get, it adds percussion. The instant you miss one, the extra percussion goes away.

I dont know why but the intruments used in the beginning gave me goodebumps from how much it reminded me of Hunter x Hunters Orchestra during the chimera Ant arc or is it just me
