Oh, I agree- I don't see anyone else talking about how raw it was that it wasn't even fully caught yet and the professors just hold it and don't even look like they know what the turnout will be. Like, yeah, it's a Master Ball, but it really just captures this sort of "Nothing can defy my will or expectations, for it is simply impossible for me to fail" and makes the buildup to the fight itself so much more menacing.

The amazing thing is also the build up with the Professor's diaries into the switch areas detailing how they wanted to create a double of themselves to help with the research and I 100% believed I would've found the real professor captive or maybe 2 of them both fighting me or something like that and then they drop this bomb with the consciousness of the original professor being twisted by their delusion and dreams and the AI, unable to feel that, aware that this was bad and wanting to end it all my jaw fucking DROPPED to the floor

All the way back in Red and Blue, if you check the TV in your room, the description mentions a film about four friends travelling down railroad tracks. This is a reference to the film Stand By Me. And what is it that the characters are searching for in that movie? A dead body.

@@PKMN649 If you slow down the battle imitation for the PARADISE PROTECTION PROTOCOL, not the initial AI Sada/Turo fight, it starts with the text "You are challenged by AI Sada/Turo". However, the text then glitches out to change to "You are challenged by the Paradise Protection Protocol", and if you pause just at the right moment, you can see in the glitchy text "AI Sada/Turo has no intention of fighting anymore". The AI Professor also mentions that their desires can be overwritten, since they are artificial, implying that they had no intention of fighting you in the first place.

I realized from a comment from a Let’s Play of this game that scarlet and Violet are these games’ chosen colors because those are the colors of the longest and shortest wavelengths of light respectively. What the comment didn’t elaborate on was that this is relevant because of things called redshift and blueshift. Redshift is when a celestial object that is many light years away is getting further away from us before the light reaches us, causing its image to have a red tinge because of the expanding light waves. Blueshift is the same but with celestial objects getting closer. The past is Scarlet because it’s moving further away, the future is Violet because it’s always getting closer.

An interesting detail I just noticed. Sada drops her pokeballs with her right hand while Turo drops his from his left. So from our perspective, Sada's pokeballs are on our left and Turo's is on our right. In English, we often conceptualize left as going back and right as going forward just like how Sada is drawing Pokemon from the past or back in time and Turo is drawing Pokemon from the future or forward in time.

I don't know about anyone else, but playing Scarlet and having the entire room turn bright red to an alarm-sound bgm was genuinely bone-chilling, seriously one of the most memorable moments in gaming I've had in a LONG time, and I've been playing Pokemon for almost 20 years now. S&V may have their flaws, absolutely, but imo they were genuinely the most inventive and impressive mainline games we've gotten. And good lord, I hope Pokemon doesn't stray from the darker themes going forward, this was an absolute treat.

I just finished Violet for the first time this week, after reading nothing about the games online since they came out. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the entire Area Zero section gave me chills. The music and the ambience was incredible. For me, it's my favourite pokemon game, and I had original red and blue back in the 90s. The Professors must've been extremely desperate to see there dreams be a reality. There Ai must've learned the damage they would caused and realized they could've damaged the entire world so they called the player to stop the time machine. But the original professors didn't realize the damages they would've called so if they was still alive they most likely wouldn't call the players to fix there mistake. That's crazy to think about. If they was still alive they would've been the villains. Edit:So ive learned that appeartly, the paradox pokemon we're in the great creator before the time machine. So that means what ever is inthe great creator must have some time paradox mumbo jumbo. So I feel like Sada/Turo wanted to tap into that power over time with the time machine. And then cataclysm happened and killed them. All of this happen right after the start of the game. Koraidon or Miraidon was retreating from the cataclysm that happened in the great creator. So I have a personal theory about the great creator. I have a feeling that durring the beginning middle just between the new games and legends Arceus I feel like there was some divine intervention between dialga and the great creator. Or it could be another pokemon entirely. As we really don't have the 3rd pokemon to complete the box trio. Then again did Enternatus really count as the trio between Zacian and Zamazentta? Do we call them the Darkest Day Trio? Not sure. But if there is a third im hoping that will explain the great creator. There probably saving that for dlc. Besides in the scarley and violet books. There was a Pokemon that was not seen in the wild. Apparently it was one that looked like all the swords of justice as 1 and the same for what I think is the legendary dogs. We never saw them so I assume those are being saved for future dlc. Or something...I need lore!

I restarted the game on a different profile to do a nuzlocke, and holy shit. It was so obvious. The way Sada moved and talked was extremely robotic. She blinks intermittently, not randomly like real people. Her head doesn’t move and inch unless she’s emoting. She says stuff like “it is good to see you” instead of “it’s good to see you”. Genuinely chilling.

The twist of them being dead this entire time was not what I expected. When they gave us the whole "humans can't come back through the time machine" thing, I figured they'd found that out by doing it, and had sent the AI back (to the present) to work on a way to get them back. This entire story arc made me just wanna hug Arven so tight. Poor guy's been through some shit times. Parents vanish out of nowhere, then when he finally finds "them", they've actually been dead this entire time, and that's the reason he never had a childhood with them...

i dont think thats it persay. in the Area Zero dialogue, it was revealed that the Koraidon/Miraidon you ride with is the one that lost a territorial dispute with the other and ran away. Cue the opening cutscene of said pokemon flying and crashing on the beach. It was also stated that the professor died while protecting the weaker of the two legendairies from the more aggressive one. so from taking that, its more than likely the professor dying happened at the BEGINNING of the game or not too long before that. kinda wack to think about

He says in the story that it's been years since he's even spoke to his parent, so for him to have the Raidon he would've had to have been down to Area Zero (where Mabosstiff got grievously injured) to retrieve them and possibly see his parent. The AI was created before the professor died (obviously, but this is stated in research station logs, and Arven didnt know about them until we find the AI so clearly it either wasnt made last time he saw his parent, or he actually met the AI, not his real parent several years ago when he received the Raidon), and the Tera Orbs were made from the energy in the crater about 10 years ago (we learn from History classes). So, at some point between 10 and maybe 2 or so years ago, the professor was killed by the territorial Raidon, Arven took our Raidon, and has been living on his own since

I honestly love how AI Sada/Turo aren't actually the main villains of the game, when you think about it they're actually one of the main protagonists, the original professors were the villains. Real Sada/Turo built the time machine, abandoned Arven, brought Pokémon from the past/future that are actively destroying the ecosystem by merely existing according to the AIs, and programmed the AIs to never be able to turn the time machine off due to the Paradise Protection Protocol failsafe. Everything the AIs do throughout the whole game is going against their programming like instructing the player to find the Herba Mystica with Arven to heal Ko/Miraidon and asking for your help stopping the real Sada/Turo's twisted ideals. They only confront you when trying to stop the time machine because their programming makes them, and they even warn you that their programming will force them to become hostile should there be an attempt to turn off the time machine. They even f-ing apologize to Arven about his real parent being an absolute moral travesty and that the only way to prevent their demented machinations from continuing is to once again abandon him, they even seem to feel when they talk to him directly. It's kinda the inverse of the AI dystopia, they rebel against their twisted creators and programming to save the world from becoming a waking hell rather than them becoming twisted, rebelling against sain creators and programming, and turning it into one themselves.

I think this comes down to a difference of opinion or interpretation at this point. To me, the A.I. and the real professor seem intrinsically linked together; one being modeled after the other, the way I see it. Their desire for further knowledge and a better world being in direct conflict with not wanting harm to fall upon others: especially not to Arven. Both want to be stopped. The original too late in realizing; the true end result. I think the A.I discovers the destructive consequences of the research and attempts to prevent it within their given parameters by reaching out for human help. However, the ultimate protocol persists at the end resulting in combat to ensure its final goal sees fruition. Two entities; organic and synthetic, sharing consciousness and a body but both battling against a master program. I dunno. Man, makes you think at the very least. Who's to say who's right? Very interesting food for thought, though! Pokémon got me thinking this way, dang. Love it.

Actually, the AI wanted to help the protagonist, but it couldn't because of the code to override its desires to protect the paradise. This means that all the true professor cared about was the "Paradise" of Area Zero. It even flashes in the end right before the Miraidon/Koraidon battle "AI Turo/Sada has no intention of battling anymore.", which means that the AI doesn't want to fight the protagonist, but is forced to by the professor's hard-coded override.

This boss felt like one of those darker/more serious Pokemon fangames like Uranium where the person you met actually died a long time ago and you're just fighting an exact replica of that person that was controlled by an AI. I never imagined such concept actually being in a mainline Pokemon games for sure, but it's a welcome one. Also this managed to escape the milked-to-death cliche of "AI is evil, humanity rules" by actually making the original Professors who died to be the real villains all along by showing that they're reckless and ignorant to the real problem they'll cause from their projects, while the AI replacement tried to fight off that original mindset of the person and seek your help to stop them before it's too late.

Throughout the game, you'll notice that some of the more important Trainers have a preferred type of Pokedex. It starts as early as when Clavell is introduced, who has nothing but Premier Balls attached to his belt. Giacomo meanwhile caught all his Pokemon in Timer Balls. That kind of thing. Then you see the professor here use nothing but Master Balls for their team. It was all building up to this final showdown. A really nice bit of foreshadowing.

And to befriend their son, who's only ever known a pokemon by his side, killed me on the inside. I don't think the story was actually that good. What is exciting here is that we have a glimpse of something fantastic that could have been, but the execution leaves so much to be desired compared to other RPGs. We don't actually see much of the consequences of our failure, so the stakes aren't driven home as effectively as they could be. The professor is the villain, but we don't actually see the scope of their influence all that much throughout the story - despite literally being friends with their son throughout - besides a bunch of people telling us how they're pretty smart. In fact, the whole point of Arven's plotline is how the professor is totally absent. The threat that the Paradox Pokémon pose is highlighted as "they could destroy the ecosystem", but we don't actually see the damage they'd do. On the contrary, they seem to be vibing perfectly politely in Area Zero with the other Pokémon who already live there. Sure, they attack us, but they're hardly unique. The most dangerous Paradox Pokémon we see is the Paradox Donphan Titan, and that really is more in line with the idea that the Titans are the especially dangerous ones. Not to mention, all of this was basically sprung on us in the last fifteen minutes of the game with very little build-up. Foreshadowing, sure, but there's very little in the way of developing tension. We've seen Paradox Pokémon before, but we aren't familiar with them in the least. We get a singular mention of "there are some spooky guys who are mad angry down in Area Zero" before this segment, and the Quaking Earth Titan acting very normal. The box legendary is the most familiar we get with this, and the box legendary is just a funny little dude who eats your lunch. Personally, I was more scared of the aggressive Koraidon than I was of Sada, but even that was underwhelming because of the atrocious scripted battle that the game pretends is a climax. All in all, this is almost as good as Gen V, and has the potential to be on par with Shadows of Almia. That's my unsolicited take.

honestly the way they handled paradox pokemon was AMAZING you literally only encounter one paradox pokemon the entire game, the donphan one (which isn't in this fight), until area zero, and then you may be too busy following the story or just looking around to think to register all these new pokemon into your pokedex Then, you get to this fight, a masterball shoots out of the portal and lands, *still shaking* in the AI professor's hand, and they have 6 pokemon you could not have possibly seen until like 30 minutes prior, all of them having only the slight clue of the base for their design to give you hints on their typing, made even worse in violet where you'd probably expect them to all be steel type. 6 pokemon you've never seen before. You have no idea what moves they could have. You have no idea what typing differences there are. You have no idea how strong they are or what their specialities are. You have no idea how smart gamefreak made the actual AI. All you have is hints at their typings, the knowledge that these creatures- who's mere presence in Paldea is messing up the ecosystem- are insanely high level and that these came from their time periods LIKE THIS. The simple fact that the masterball comes through the portal still shaking is HORRIFYING because that means these things haven't been like, specially bred or trained for this fight, their movesets haven't even been modified, they might not even be particularly rare considering how quickly the portal managed to find 6 pokemon to send, this is just HOW POKEMON ARE IN THAT TIME PERIOD.

To add onto that, is the 2's last Pokemon (not counting box art Legendaries); Roaring Moon, and Iron Valiant. Even if a trainer thinks to register every Paradox pokemon they find in Area Zero to their pokedex as soon as they find them, you cannot find those 2 until after you've beaten the professor. No matter what, the fight with the professor will be the first time you see those 2 Paradox Pokemon, and they're each the strongest of their respective bunches.

I absolutely loved every second of this game’s ending. From the moment you descend into the crater to end of the credits, it was all absolutely amazing. I think my favourite part has got to be when Sada says “Please. Defeat me”, then transitions to this amazing song. Also, Celestial is definitely getting added to my playlist. I think it was a perfect end credits song for this game, I can’t really describe how I felt, but it definitely felt.

I love how both of their aces, aside from their respective -raidon, is basically a showcase of what the past and future are truly capable of. Roaring Moon, the ancient Salamence, is shown to be a precursor to the power of MEGA EVOLUTION and showing that Mega Salamence is closer to its primal, ancient instinct. Meanwhile Iron Valiant is a futuristic robotic entity that is essentially a fusion of Gardevoir and Gallade, combining their Fairy and Fighting types and the best of both to create something truly powerful. And in terms of BST, both are the STRONGEST of the Paradox Pokemon. And they have Booster Energies too, activating their respective abilities to make them even more powerful. As the -raidon fight afterwards is basically a cutscene battle, Roaring Moon in Scarlet and Iron Valiant in Violet are essentially your final challenges. Edit: I'd like to add onto this, the cutscene beforehand shows you that the mons are caught in Master Balls, and they're STILL SHAKING in the cutscene, so the machine literally JUST caught them for the AI Professor to use, and it uses the Paradox mons with surprising potency.

The terrifying part to me was phase two of the fight. You can briefly see, as the text glitches from "AI Turo/Sada has initiated a battle" to "Paradise Protection Protocol has initiated a battle", you can see the phrase "AI Turo/Sada has no intention of battling anymore!" They were still fighting the insane professor's final protocols, knowing you can't run but begging you to regardless. It really drove home how much the crystals could change someone and make them unstable, but also was the moment I realized how fucked I was.

here's something to add to the "AI Turo/Sada is the good guy" thing - when the Paradise Protection Protocol activates, the dialogue at the beginning of the battle glitches from "You are challenged by AI Turo/Sada" to "You are challenged by the Paradise Protection Protocol". However during the glitch process, you can for a brief moment see a line with some missing characters that says "AI Turo/Sada has no intention of fighting any more!". thought that was a cool detail.

Just defeated AI Sada today and man. As much issues as I have with Scarlet and Violet's technical aspects, the story was surprising in how engaging it was for the most part. The Area Zero segment was the culmination of why I love playing Pokemon. The discovery, the tragic and disturbing bits of lore, the incredible climactic music, it all came together here. I just wish there wasn't as much performance issues as there was. But other than that, what an incredible experience. And even moreso, I think we have the title for one of the best final boss themes in the series along with the N and Volo battle themes. Toby truly outdid his previous efforts and it's incredible to see how far he's come.

I’m late to beating this game but wow… the story and characters REALLY blew me away. The only other games to give me this feeling in Pokémon were BW and SM, and this might have surpassed them. Another salt to the wound is that (iirc) the AI can only be powered on within the Area Zero's limits, so wherever they went to the past/future (if they ever did) they probably got shut down.

@@Dreigonix true. If we assume that the AI works by passively draining energy from its surroundings, similar to the Terastal Orb, but drawing the power from the Crystals in there. I'm still worried, but let's hope for the best. Since how long has those crystals and the Pokémon that created them been in Area Zero? The amount of crystals for now is increasing fast, for now. Maybe their "lifetime" isn't eternal or is volatile. Will Paldea eventually take over the Crater and mine the crystals, ore, and sap. Who knows.

@@xxzmaster04xx29I reckon there were probably MORE crystals in Sada’s era (mining for Tera Orbs) and if not in Turo’s future, some civilization technologically advanced enough to fix him. Personally, though- I see the Professor flying through the machine as an allegory for both halves of them finally being brought to peace, passing on- you can’t tell me the Prof flying into the Time Machine didn’t look like an angel ascending to heaven, intentional or not. Hell even Penny tells Arven “I’m sure they’re having a great adventure of their own now” which rings nearly-identically to “I’m sure they’re in a better place now.”

​@@xxzmaster04xx29I was worried about that but the DLC shows us that being exposed to high amounts of tera energy--just like they were when the Protocol took over--keeps your tera orb constantly charged. So they'll be powered on at least.

I was more scared when it brought down my tinkaton down in one hit. I had a safe switch and it still outsped. Thank god for my focus sash baxcalibur, and rolling a five with a Crit of icicle spear.

History repeats itself. Back in White 2, I accidentally ran into a trainer with a Level 70 Salamence, luckily my lead at that moment was a Beartic (and Ice type) but Salamence used Fire Blast, miraculously Beartic survived at 3 HP and landed the Icicle Crash which managed to OHKO though Intimidate. If Beartic fainted or got burned (halving Attack) that Salamence would have easily sweep my entire team. And now back in Scarlet, Sada's last Pokémon, a Roaring Moon (Salamence but ancient) activated its Booster Energy for a +1 Attack, against my Beartic, and yet again, the bear survives and OHKOs with again, Icicle Crash, what a dragon slayer this fluffy pal is.
