We had one woman flip her shit on a nurse because we wouldn't pierce or allow piercing of a 3 day old baby's ears so she could wear these heavy gold earrings in her hospital photos. You'd be shocked at what some people will do to their kids to appease cultural mores. Occasionally, it requires a call to social services to have someone come in and explain why a practice is detrimental to a baby because it's just something they've always done in their family or whatever and they're genuinely confused as to why it's a bad thing.
