I like that you said "newer". You're right, most Gmod videos after 2010 or so rely solely on stupid faces, noises, and rape jokes. I find that trend boring, cheap, and distasteful. KZbin has become totally saturated with Gmod and SFM videos and those who really spend time crafting a quality machinima have no chance against the oceans of "POOTIS RAPE FAEC LOL" videos. I hate it.

Janfon01 Yeah, RubberFruit pretty much single-handed changed the Gmod landscape with his ridiculous noises and faces. To be honest, I really liked them; I thought it took talent to make something so absurd without falling into the "lol im so random" category. There's a fine line between comedic absurdity and formless, unfunny lunacy. The problem is that he spawned an army of copycats that put out twice as many videos with half the imagination. I think that's part of the reason why he quit. He started this huge Gmod revolution when he just wanted to make whacky videos. He's kind of the tragic figure of the Gmod community.

There actually a glitch about putting someone in the cart (before Valve patch it of course). All you need to do is go Engie and as the cart move backward (when no one cap it for too long) place a Tele on the train track and crouch, when the cart push you along you will get stuck by the building and glitch you inside the cart. So when even the whole enemy team trying to cap it it won't move (due to an enemy near the cart) and they also can't kill you since the cart is technically an obstacle.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment! I didn't discover the high-quality player models, animation sequences, and phonemes until 100 hours in, which means I manually animated every little movement. I didn't even touch the Motion Editor until the last couple scenes, and I have no idea what an IK rig is. I wasn't aiming for hilarity (since I think Gmod is better suited for goofy, cartoonish movies), it was more of a cinematic crash course in SFM. Thanks for the advice, and I hope you stay tuned.

Any time! I haven't used SFM myself, but I took a look at the walking in your next video and I can understand how hard it must be. Keep practicing, and you'll improve over time. You should also see if you can find any other animators you can ask for guidance and tips with your work, because they'll know the tricks of the trade and can help you improve a lot.

The teams were reversed on purpose, since the colors contrasted better in the Payload map. It's easier to see a BLU model against a red, dusty landscape, and vice versa.

It's a regular .45 casing. There aren't any "unfired round" models in the SFM libraries, so a pistol casing is the best I could do. I guarantee that it isn't a shotgun shell, though.

This is definitely a very solid start for the first movie by a self-taught animator. Don't get discouraged by any negatives here; coming from someone who's been learning 3D modeling and animation for 2 years now, I can say that with enough practice and a bit of help, you could be a great animator. The first step I recommend is making a walk cycle; it's a very typical practice piece when learning animation. Look up other walk cycles and find something to use for reference first. Good luck!

There is a button in Vegas toolbar called "Render As".There you have a wide selection of render possibilities.You have to experiment with each of them to get the best quality you like.I suggest starting from the ones that have HD in the beginning.You can see that there are different formats (480x...;720x... etc.).So yeah you need to experiment with them :)
