Actually, the A-10 is absolutely /terrifying/ to fly against. It can't outrun you, but it can /out-turn/ you, and that great big GAU-8 Avenger will absolutely /shred/ anything that's in the air. As a fighter pilot, you /absolutely/ do /not/ want to be in the sights of an A-10. They're used to escort helicopters for a /very/ good reason.

Some context for this mission: this is the first time the player character encounters the sort-of main antagonist of Ace Combat 7, the pilot Mihaly A. Shilage, or as he's known to the good guys of the story, "Mister X." He's a legendary pilot in the game's universe, at one point a squad mate even calls him "the king of the skies." In this game, Mihaly's flying style is being used to create advanced tactical AI for drones, which is why he sortied in this mission: to update the drones with fresh data. Granted, he wasn't counting on getting caught in a dogfight with someone like Trigger, so he had to pull out before he blacked out from the number of G's he was pulling.

This mission is very stressful, maybe even the most stressful. Fly timidly and you will get slammed into a hill. Fly too slow and you're gonna get shot down by a SAM. Fly too fast and you're slamming into a mountain at 1000kts

Even though the translations are a little weird, the story, as a whole, is very good. A lot of Ace Combat lore is much more open ended then from the perspective you are given, mostly due to the fact that you play as an Osean (U.S. modeled country) pilot and the perspective of the story is told based on Osean history. The only exceptions to this would be like, for example, Ace Combat Zero, where you play as an Ustio (which is modeled after France) mercenary pilot fighting for another country with a weak military power against a much more technologically advanced country, Belka (modeled after Germany)

I like the Mystery Bad Guy having enough bushido in him that he plays with the target instead of wiping it out immediately.
