Because every fighter in the division isn’t naturally that weight. Whoever thought that Mike Perry was going to beat Jake Paul who is twice his size was just being ridiculous. Just hearing about the fight my first thought was, aren't they in completely different weight classes? Jake Paul was about to fight Mike Tyson and looking like a damn heavyweight. But the actual fight was not what I expected. I've seen both of them fight before so I expected to see something that looked like skill and training on display. They looked like two people pulled from the crowd and told to fight for money. Commentators said the same thing. No actual boxing skills being used in the fight. What happened? Why did they both look so bad?

Jake is sub par at best. None of the fighters he's fought are really calculated. Maybe the closest will be Silva but he's already had the shit beat out of him too many times. Mike Perry is a brawler, Jake has been obviously learning how to defend, slip, hook, and really use boxing skills. These BFC and MMA keep going in with a MMA mentality. Everyone is calling him out for his weight, but he made weight so it's valid. Truth be told the reason mike perry lost is he was a bare knuckle boxer. In bare knuckle fights it's all about precision and hitting soft targets of the face and throat. You also weave more than block, because you don't have big gloves to protect you. Standard boxing lets you focus on power, and blocking is more efficient with gloves. In boxing you can hit the forehead and be less worried about getting a boxer fracture.

I believe he has power. I believe he has skill. He knocks out elite athletes, and has done so consistently. However, He is not an elite boxer. He's a good fighter who exposes the limited boxing ability of mixed martial artist. They do not have the speed of elite boxers. The footwork of elite boxers. The conditioning of elite boxers. the head movement of elite boxers. All of the characteristics of an elite boxer that are built up to nullify their opponents ability to land on them. Jake paul is only getting better at fighting mma guys who have all been past their prime. Yet he stands their talking like he's accomplishing something that we all should remember in decades to come.
