Fantastic dialogue! So many great bits of information. My favorite was, "Would you rather be right or find out the truth?" So many people, including myself at times, would rather be right versus discovering the truth. I remember high school debate teams. That was not an exercise in finding the truth but honing your power of persuasion.

Absolutely yes! “Belief has no place where truth is concerned.” - J. Krishamurti. And a great one that I don’t have an attribution for: “Some people don’t want to know the truth. They want to know what they already believe is the truth.” Beliefs are so insidious: “Believing that your uncertain ignorance is small compared to your certain knowledge is the signature assumption of fools.” - Thomas Campbell. And lastly: “All beliefs block further insight.” - Thomas Campbell

I could give a couple hour talk about how conflict develops between people (those who ought to be friends) who live next to or with and how to resolve it on several levels. The person I live next to is just about opposite from me with so many things, but through inner work we have learned how to co-exist and I know how to not go off the rails with this crazy life.

This talk is so important and refreshingly calm when you consider the topics covered and today’s climate. As someone fascinated by behavioral, brain, and social sciences and hopeful for a more inclusive, respectful, heart-centered and rational climate, I am truly grateful for this conversation. Thank you both! 🙏🏼❤️🌈 One of my favorite quotes (there were many!) “You should only ever influence someone for *their* benefit. And they should know what’s going on. It should be consensual”. !!! This. X’s 1,000. Then that part about “…we can manipulate peoples identity.” 😳 Um… I’m thinking we’re seeing a whole lot of this right now. As the wise adage goes and David said repeatedly, “Know Thyself”. This may be the most counter culture, “progressive” and sovereign thing a human being can do for his or her self. And if there is one thing everyone seems to agree on either side of aisle or on no aisle, it’s that they want sovereignty. That will require we know ourselves beyond conditioning, labels, and the manipulations of social engineering through misuse of the sciences by using the knowledge against the people; NOT to benefit them, but to exploit them.

The hard part about challenging the narrative… you are looked down on by people .. and everyone thinks it’s their job to tell you how you’re doing it wrong..so you question yourself constantly and feel shame for not doing it the way everyone else does.. like there is something wrong with you because you don’t aspire to the same things in life as the ones around you.. it’s so complicated and difficult to navigate and feel you are being true to what you feel you need for your life vs approval that you are finally doing it “right”.
@rosediamond392 жыл бұрын
It's a very good point.... Personally I like to see them all as tests now. A test of your faith or what you have chosen to believe in.... If you can be easily swayed it's a good idea to look at what it is in us that feels attacked by others.... I got good at this during the pandemic. I chose not to wear a mask or take the vaccine and many people told me I would be putting lives at risk, that the air wasn't fit to breath... I went inwards whenever I felt challenged by these statements until eventually I truly arrived at sovereignty. I hope you are there now too. ❤️

We HAVE to be able to be wrong or we’ll never learn a thing..and PS love graham hancock..remember when no one wanted to hear about his experiences with Ayahuasca either? (Obvs not “no one”) Was banned from Ted talks, first presentation they banned I think? I know this makes me sound small and petty, but I didn’t have much use for TT after that, it was so disheartening . I thought that was a place to learn, so censorship wouldn’t have a home there..I Emailed him years ago as a heroin addicted house cleaner, thanking him for his endless research..listening to his lectures (and many others too) helped get me through my days of what was just pure hell inside. He was my reprieve as I scrubbed other peoples homes (very wealthy peoples homes) to make the money to get the drugs that I needed to get up to go to work, just to function. And he emailed me back a week later, apologizing that it took so long and shared compassion with me. Gave me some resources he thought could help with my addiction…unfortunately I was financially unable to do so, but that’s not the point! He cared enough to take the time and write me back! Someone he could have so easily judged or just flat ignored. I just had to share that.. It’s just a tender story to me and since you mentioned him, I thought I’d share. I’m in recovery now, but not in the way I’d like to be. My goal still is to be able to experience some of the things he described back then…ayahuasca being part of that. For me personally, I just don’t feel Methadone, suboxone, have been the answer. Feel like just trading one for another…the other just happens to be more addictive and state sponsored. But! It’s had its benefits…not black and white…lots of grey…just not for me. But it is what it is till I can change it. 🖤 🪷

I may well ammend or delete this comment after watching this conversation in full, but I'm already feeling the neex for a "time out" and will wait to finish this. Currently, I'm ONLY 13 minutes in, but already getting that anxious feeling I get when I watch one of these type dialogs, get invested in the interviewee, agree with many of their points, and then realize I detest their political beliefs, and lose all respect for them. With regard to David's point about how to push people into realizing they don't REALLY understand the platforms of the political parties they support: that was true of myself... when I identified as a Democrat. Democrat is the "default setting" in America, because the Democrats own 90% of MSM (CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, New York Times, Washington Post, Time Magazine, Newsweek, The Atlantic, New York Magazine, and so on, and so on, and so on, ad nauseum). The Democrats/Left also own our Universities AND virtually ALL of popular entertainment (that's virtually EVERY song, movie, tv show, PODCAST, and Documentary one is likely to encounter). SO: While I agree with David's statement about people not REALLY understanding their party's platform, I only agree with it as it pertains to Democrats and those on the Left. As a former Leftist myself, I KNOW how dogmatic I was, even when I KNEW I didn't really know the facts of whatever topic I was discussing (let's say military spending, or Universal Healthcare). HOWEVER, in 2016, I had a "HUGE" Awakening thanks to my support for Bernie Sanders (that douche), Donald Trump, and the endless lies told about him by the MSM and every celebrity from Cardi B to Meryl Streep. TODAY, I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I BELIEVE POLITICALLY AND WHY I BELIEVE IT. I could easily justify each and every one of my beliefs with (not just) facts, but the incredible effort it took to find them. I would say this is true the vast majority of FORMER LEFTISTS WHO'VE ABANDONED THE LEFT, like myself. We are some of the most engaged, well informed people around, BECAUSE everything we believe, we've had to make enormous efforts to inform ourselves and arrive at conclusions completely at odds with 90% of what is being shouted at us 24/7. So I (understandably) am hypersensitive to hearing ANYONE (much less a communications expert) even HINT at any type of relativism, equating the beliefs of the Left and the Right as equally biased misperceptions.
@reachingpeople55342 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, sounds like you took the time to check your beliefs. When we do this, we can become clear about what we believe. I am pointing out what seems to be a default pattern for many. It doesn't have to be. It really is a function of the brain to fill in gaps. I have my own beliefs, as everyone does. I am showing the mechanism which can allow us a better understanding of how they function. This will also allow people to be conscious of how easy it is to not know why we believe something. This can happen regardless of intelligence. This can, no doubt, create a discomfort. I have experienced more than my fair share of cognitive dissonance. My beliefs have changed over time and I am sure they will continue to, as I delve deeper into the information on each subject. Hope this helps, David
@markmywords28402 жыл бұрын
@@reachingpeople5534 thank you David for the direct reply. Well, I have, in fact, now watched the entire podcast and am glad I did, as I found many of your insights... uh... insightful. Furthermore, I was quite happy to hear you call out (in a roundabout way) the insanity surrounding Covid, mask mandates, and the push for global acceptance of a totally untested vaccine. While I wouldn't even care to divine your political leanings, I can say I am an "out and proud" Trump supporter (or as the Democrats call me "a Domestic Terrorist"). Like many, I started out disliking his bravura and the redundancy (and seeming idiocy) of his speech patterns (something I now see as a brilliant way of branding ideas in the public imagination). All of this to say that even though I am an enthusiastic Trump supporter, I (like many others) would jettison him in a heartbeat, should I find he is not who I believe him to be. I see no such willingness and/or flexibility from those on the Left, who appear to grow crazier by the minute. I very much believe they are the VICTIMS of the Party leaders they so revere, who manipulate them into grotesque actions and beliefs, in order to retain power. I'm also aware that I TOO, might be oblivious to my own brainwashing. However, the fact that I'm even willing to acknowledge that possibility suggests to me that my critical thinking remains intact. Thanks again for the response and I'll look forward to exploring more of your content.

21:40 - "Would you rather be right, or find the truth?" is not David's question. That is a classic NLP question and he should know that since he's trained in it. It's a little dishonest to be claiming ownership about this. In fact it's kind of funny that he's talking about always being right at the same time. Also his hug story is not owned by the person he claims it's owned by. I've heard it many times from different people, first from someone at a Canadian Rally 1.5 years ago (whom I know personally). How amazing that it's travelled so far. I've done it myself. There are several other misquotes too. Not to distract from his work, but I take issue with people who claim a problem with others, while they engage in the same behaviour. We can't make a point against others using the same communication flaw.
@reachingpeople55342 жыл бұрын
EM I relayed the story about my sister for the effect it had on me. This was a true story. The story about the hug is a true story, I know the lady personally. She shared it on a call with 20 witnesses. She has, no doubt happened in many places. The story was relayed due to the power of connecting. Can you please be specific if there were any misquotes and I can address them if there were. I do not claim the problem is others, I claim it is ours as a general rule for which we have to resolve.
