''The Iliad: the Bible of Ancient Times'' So, as you can guess from the title, the Iliad -- famously written by the allegedly blind poet Homer -- was considered a biblical book. Biblical in the sense that Greeks and Romans tended to derive their morals and their idea of ''goodness'' from this literary work. What was the Iliad about, then? Surely, the Iliad will tell of the mythological thousand ships sent to Troy, the recapturing of Helen and, of course, the final demise of Troy by the even more famous scheme of the Trojan horse? Three important historical threads, trice wrong. None of the aforementioned is actually talked about in the Iliad. The Iliad, however, is about a far more moral and modern, in a sense, essence: ''MHNIN ἄειδε θεὰ Πηληϊάδεω Ἀχιλῆος'' - Iliad, verse 1.1 Sing, goddess, of the WRATH of Peleus' son, Achilles The poem, thousands of lines like these, tells the story of wrath -- and not just anyone's wrath. No, it is the wrath of this specific person, Achilles, the greatest of the Trojan warriors, that makes the story so important. After a dispute between Achilles and Agamemnon, the leader of the Greek forces, Achilles decides to refrain from fighting. The Trojans start winning, the Greeks start losing. Patrocles, whose has a ''very intimate bond'' with Achilles, dons Achilles' armour in an effort to scare a Trojan assault. In the fight that follows, the Trojan prince Hector recognises said armour and kills Patrocles, not Achilles. Achilles is not amused. Having lost his... ''friend'', he holds elaborate funeral games and goes into a frenzy. Wrath. Achilles, the best warrior to ever live, decides to ride to the walls of Troy and call out for Hector to show himself, to offer himself, to fight to the death. Hector, bound by honour, does present himself and the fight is on. Hector was a very good warrior, but Achilles was the very best warrior. After killing Hector, Achilles then continues to drag the fresh corpse through the dirt behind his chariot, defiling and unpurifying the now dead body. Achilles takes Hector's corpse back to his camp, where he lets it rot. This is when the true plot starts to unravel. In the middle of the night, with guards all around him and having just lost his eldest, king Priam of Troy sneaks into Achilles's tent: he kisses his feet, he blesses his hands and he begs for the return of the deceased body of Hector. Achilles is bamboozled, to say the least. Achilles, still entranced with wrath, does, however, the unexpected thing: he shows mercy, he gives in, he drops his personal feeling and decides that bygones be bygones. Hector is returned to Priam and the Trojans to be buried ritually and properly. That is, furthermore, also where the Iliad ends: ''And when they had piled the barrow they went back, and gathering together duly feasted a glorious feast in the palace of Priam, the king fostered of Zeus. On this wise held they funeral for horse-taming Hector''. Forever after, mercy and clemency in the sight of emotion were sacred to the Greeks and the Romans, because Homer's Iliad and his depiction of Achilles made it so. Truly biblical, if you ask me.

Lionheart faced to his long time friend and commander, Marcus Camillus. “This will either be your finest hour or the greatest tragedy for the Claudia family. Unless we get lucky and the AI bugs out and sends them in waves” Camillus turned to regard his second in command with an inquisitive eyebrow, “What in Jupiter’s name are you talking about?”

Camillus again should be allowed to survive at all cost to avoid potential civil war. Furthermore, you should allow his legion to subjugate barbarians. Also name his legion something powerful as his army and himself have survived against the odds. Subdue any rebellions and have one army against the enemies in the south. One of your generals, spurious, should get a wife as a reward for his service to Rome. Keep getting your economy up to support your conquest and keep public order.

Why not disband the rest of Camillus' troops? He is still leading an "army" (of one) that way, and it will be cheaper on your economy. Also, who at CA got the bright idea that a faction with no territories and its only influential member and leader recently deceased should be able to gather support for a civil war? That should be the death knell of any faction, not its chance for power.

The new political system in Rome 2 is just a mess. They need to fix it. There’s no way that every party in my campaigns spawns with horrible traits and there’s no way a faction leader and heir would leave to form a new party. The LEADER is LEADING and the HEIR is INHERITING. Why would they form their own party?
@ocadioan6 жыл бұрын
Even worse, if what LH said at the start is true, then you can't even get rid of a faction even if you get its only member killed and it loses its only territory in the same turn.
@cohortConnor6 жыл бұрын
ocadioan that was actually before the update. Let’s say in Grand Campaign House Cornelia has 20% power. Out of 100 senators they would have 20 senators. If their statesmen or generals are all killed the party would still be there, because they have 20% of the senate. I like to think of the generals and statesmen as a few important characters out of a bigger party.

Would not just replacing camillu's solve the problem?
@lionheartx106 жыл бұрын
Nope because then if he gets disloyal while not leading an army he’ll spawn multiple full stacks of elite troops around rome should he split off for a Civil War. Much better to leave him in charge of a weak army that if he breaks off for a civil war will he easily defeated and not surround Rome!
@jbra92586 жыл бұрын
lionheartx10 I’ve had multiple secessions / civil wars in my very hard difficulty Rome Campaign. In my experience replacing does indeed do the trick. Yes, Camillus would spawn in an area within your territory however, needs to muster troops to build an army. So no full stacks. In my experience the secessionist often muster weak units with some mercenaries and then still go for Rome even if they hardly make a chance for claiming it. It took me mostly 3 turns to recover from secession depending on the region. You only have to be careful of losing Military traditions you build up with armies. So don’t put Generals in your elite armies from different families as it could be hard and time costly to annihilate them. In short: don’t worry about camillus or a secession. The plus 25-40 political loyalty boost of overcoming secession could be worthwile on an occassion.

Why on Earth would you tank your economy to save your most worthless settlement?? The obvious choice was to abandon it and sail your army away or to kick Camillus and recruit another general into the army in tegeste!
@lionheartx106 жыл бұрын
Because it was only every going to be a single turn tank of my economy which it was with the prospect of keeping my army and my settlement. 100% worth the single turn impact hiring some mercenaries had on my income.
@-Valyrian-6 жыл бұрын
Fair enough, and that's a good point but I thought you wanted to kill off the leader of House Licinia to decrease their influence, so I was thinking this would have been a great opportunity to do that.
@lionheartx106 жыл бұрын
Yeah but if I did that then we'd likely face the same issue we would have faced if I'd lost Camillus, while killing of the leader of Licinia would reduce their influence it would also lower their loyalty further as they'd be upset for losing a leader and with no one else deployed leading an army they'd just spawn full stacks around Rome.
