How terrible that these nurses would be fired and prosecuted. Hospitals often ask their staff to "speak up for safety" and that then requires a non-punitive environment. Thanks for fighting for the nurses.

Behind you all the way! Hooray for you! Shame on them!! We must report when we know abuse or lack of ethics is happening when the provider won't self-correct when confronted. There should never be threats or retribution coming because someone reports another provider. EVERY code of ethics says that a provider MUST confront or report another provider when they are suspected or known of causing wrong. I am proud of these nurses and angered that there are more providers who do not get cleared or praised for doing what is the right thing to do. We have much work to do!!

Nurses get threatened and fired if they report abuse of patients by other healthcare providers. I know this out of personal experiences.

If anyone sees this, I am a non licensed non para professional healthcare worker in Idaho who has reported Pt. abuse in-house including HR. As is standard practice at work, I am certain no investigation was done. I have exemplary performance reviews, no prior complaints from staff or otherwise, yet I am pretty sure they are going to fire me next week. I've not gone outside because I've wanted up to this point to avoid negative publicity. Coincidentally I am on leave while accreditation is visiting? any suggestions, perspectives? I've talked to a local Attny that seems indifferent and on the fence as to protections. Thank you nurses for standing and to be honest, I can't believe NO nurses present spoke out then. Sadly I went to a House Sup whom I'm sure is the one who violated my anonymity, as my boss threw it back in my face in a recorded meeting.

I hope that you were not fired for telling the truth. If the incident had involved their friend or love one the outcome would be different. Continue to do what you feel is right and ethical. God will give you a blessing that you deserve.

just an update, and no i am not being sarcastic or joking. the former doctor is now employed by pizza hut as a cook. just f.y.i.

That is a great outcome for these nurses and their patients! I am proud the ANA and Texas State board stood up for the nurses. I am very proud of them for standing up for their patients regardless what may happen. I am happy the correct individuals were charged appropriately.

You're supposed to call "safe harbor" on your license before reporting anything at all...but your license is always public info.
