+BornFree I actually have a hard time with Ryu's particularly combo 8 going from cr.MP to shoryuken to super (but have done them all at least once) while, Karin is impossible for me.... the stupid just frame punch to the orochi is soon hard
@BornFreeYT
@BornFreeYT 8 жыл бұрын
+David Kim Standing medium punch you mean? I've been using Ryu a lot so it wasn't hard for me. Nash feels alien to me! I've also been using Karin. The just frame tenko was easy for me but the Orochi is the most insane timing I've ever witnessed! Try VesperArcade's tutorial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHjcmXuVecmLnac

I've always had the worst time doing the simple charge combos like Guile's Sonic Boom. I use fight pads and basic controllers, and every time I try to switch from back to forward, he jumps up like 90% of the time no matter how precise I get with my presses

Good stuff. I remember the real frustration struggling with trial modes back in older games... Another technique is visualisation, which Olympians use to improve their performance. You simply imagine yourself doing the thing you are trying to get better at, so imagine yourself pressing those buttons and hitting those combos and you will get better. I heard a story that Poongko did a variation of this in a hotel room one time. Being super late at night and with no access to a console, he simply practiced combos and setups using nothing but an unplugged stick.

One tip is like to interject for fighting game & combo virgins is to try and figure the correct timing for each button press. I notice allot of beginners will button mash when doing a combo so that each subsequent move comes out on time. Try to learn to watch that character animation and get a feel for what it looks like when you're able to cancel to the next move. That way you're only pressing your buttons once and then moving on, whereas if you button mash you're pushing the buttons and making motions trying to get your timing correct and you're liable to not only drop inputs, but your hands will be out of position in case of a bad hit confirm or read. Just my own lil 2 cents for newbies. Keep fighting and eventually you'll be Brian F and Justin Wong level! You're great! I know you are!

Great video. My problem is it's taking so long to work through one characters trials and to get them committed to muscle memory, if I were to do all character trials I dont think I'd ever get to play the actual game.

Thanks for the videos! They've been very helpful! Being as that I use a HitBox, it was nigh impossible for me to complete Zangief's trials. Doing a 360 -- let alone a 720 motion on a controller that uses all buttons is very challenging. I had to set aside my HitBox and use the PS4 control pad. And even then, Zangief's trial #8 was difficult to complete. The timing was just really awkward for me. But like as you explained in this video, I came to it the day after and got it on my second try! I was flapping my arm like a one-winged chicken, but I got it.

Great video, some cool tips. One of the trials that I struggled on last week was Vega's 2nd trial, easily went through his others. My timing of the crouching light, standing light was off, or when I got that part, I couldn't link/cancel the standing light into the medium slice. Was infuriating when I could do the latter trials easily. Still lots of learning, and practicing to do.
@BornFreeYT
@BornFreeYT 8 жыл бұрын
+Tri-L's Funny you bring up Cancels and Links. I cut out of the video the explanation of cancels and links. Very important for trials. I did it for time and sort of regret it. The the slice is infact a cancel. So you probably were not entering it properly. But now you learnt something which is cool :) I struggled with Vega 8 because of the "switching claw" halfway through!

These steps are exactly what I do. My stick was finally delivered so I've only just recently started playing SFV "seriously". I'm presently working on Chun since she's always been my main. Her trial #10 is quite simple but it's the one that I'm hung up on. Figured I'd sleep on it tonight and finish it tomorrow or Wednesday (depends on how severe the storms are tomorrow here in tornado alley). The timing of everything in SFV feels a little strange after 7 or 8 years of SF4.

Awesome! I'm actually trying to improve my dashing/shimmy execution. Doing it each day and hoping I'll get good enough on stick otherwise I may move to pad because dashing is so easy...
@FrazzleCat
@FrazzleCat 8 жыл бұрын
+BornFree Definitely use what works best for you. Pads have their pros and cons. They hurt my thumb quite a bit so I prefer to not use them and there were certain plinks that I couldn't pull off on it -- but that was in USF4. Trying to pull off Chun's leg loops on a pad was a nightmare! haha
@BornFreeYT

+SirMysk Hmm, wondering if I tighten the spring on the stick or get a bat top (taller = more leverage????) whether that will help. I'll keep training muscle memory for the next few weeks and see what happens. But this game definitely requires dashing finesse.
@FrazzleCat
@FrazzleCat 8 жыл бұрын
BornFree Oh I'm a bat top guy myself but I'm currently using a ball top. I need to find a bat top that will fit my Qanba Q1 but I don't know which will fit without the need to solder. You can also try changing the restrictor gate. The Q1 came with a second option so I'm going to swap that in to see if it helps any.

I have a question: I have heard several times about "Hit Confirms", but I honestly don't get them. So here's my question: What is a Hit Confirm? Does it have something to do with doing combos or something like that?
@AkaiAzul
@AkaiAzul 6 жыл бұрын
troper576 Hit confirms, correct me if I’m wrong, is where you only do the first hit or two of a combo, but do NOT follow through with the rest of it, unless you connect with one of them. Example, say the combo is cLP, sMP, cMK, DP+MK, you input the first hit or two, but if they’re blocked, stop trying to do the rest of the combo, unless you realize one of the hits connect. Why? Chances are, getting the entire combo blocked leaves you extremely vulnerable, opening you to get comboed / punished. If you had waited for a hit confirmed as connecting, you might not’ve gotten punished.
@Sindot98
@Sindot98 6 жыл бұрын
Hit confirming is a tactic used by more expirienced players to give their mind time to register whether or not to follow through with a combo. Example being if you get your opponent blocking, the start of your combo should have one or two hits that give you enough time to react to the two possible situations: the opponent blocks or he gets hit. If he blocks, going further in the combo would be unsafe so you reset the string or continue block pressure, if he gets hit obviously you follow through with whatever combo you wanted.
@teon7881
@teon7881 5 жыл бұрын
It’s basically confirming it’s safe to continue a combo or anything else if the initial attack hits. Like if the first hit of a combo hits, it is safe to continue the combo

Any tips for doing combos with charge characters? I should switch to a easier character but M. Bison has always been my favourite and i wana get good with him even tho i suck at street fighter. I find it so hard to charge up moves whilst pressing normal buttons
@BornFreeYT
@BornFreeYT 8 жыл бұрын
Big question. But you sort of answered it yourself. You have to practice holding back while doing other things. So instance let's say with M. Bison you want to do j.hk, cr.mp, lk.scissors. As soon as you jump hold the stick or d-pad down back - press the hk button, land in crouching position and press mp, then cancel that move into lk.scissors. Practice it over and over in the training room until it feels natural to be holding back during the first two moves. Charge characters are hard for me too. The secret is knowing when and how to charge back. It comes with practice. I hope that helps. Get in that training room. Master it and then try landing it in some casual games. This approach - masking the charge behind other moves - is the key, and something you will get used to if you practice it. Keep grinding :)

@SoldatCrinale
@SoldatCrinale 8 жыл бұрын
what helped me was studying the demonstrations. quick analysing when the frames just hits...and then peicing it together. as long as I know what it looks like...I just have to emulate it. it especially helped with karin and alex. at the end its all about execution...so you have to self adjust and think what you are doing wrong and correct it...like am I activating v trigger at the right time or how meaty I have to jump for this combo to work. so pretty much reflecting on your failures will make you see a clear picture. toughest trials...anything zangeif or I hate to say it..charge characters. I can't for the life of me cancel into specials. guile is nearly impossible for me.
@BornFreeYT
@BornFreeYT 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah I forgot to mention that. Weirdly I thought about that for days after I published the video, and having to cut my explanation of cancels and links. I struggled the most with Nash. +Juan G Yes that one is tough. Don't give up. Just practice the jump and early canon strike over and over. Honestly when I first did it, I thought "this is impossible". Then practice the other parts and put it all together.
