I just want the 3v3 mode to be the testing grounds for match making outside of the god awful tower. the best update the game could possibly make at this point is to allow standard style matchmaking. I don't care if you can still do it from the tower or you can just do it from the home screen. but if Strive wants to extend it's lifespan as an already aging game, matchmaking is the key.

The only reason I'm looking forward to 2XKO is that it will probably be the first ever traditional fighting game to have a well functioning online 2v2 experience where you can queue up with your friends and climb together. I don't care in the slightest about the IP but I can't pass that up, even Strive's 3v3 is a joy with friends with all its technical problems and sometimes running at 20fps with terrible ping.

Calling it now Sega will give Evo a good reason to feature VF5 as their classic game during its anniversary year. Before this recent VF push started my guess would have been one of the classic KOF games. Evo probably doesn't want the classic spot to be all Capcom all the time and KOF15 is 100% guaranteed to drop out of the main stage this year.

Yeah that's the hard part about throwback is that it's going to be related to capcom. Not to say old Capcom games weren't peak and that's why it keeps showing up but I was thinking we were getting some solid throwback titles that get a second chance. Combo Breaker getting MKX is a good sign though, maybe rick is get to decide on something more out there instead of capcom for this year

I'm telling y'all, being free is going to be BIG for 2xko. People spend nearly $90 on a fighting game, get fucked up, then when they look for help they're told, "oh you only practiced for 50 hours? That is actually no time at all and you just don't want to put in the work," and they become a hater. This game is going to bring in a lot of people who have been interested in fighting games in the past, tried, but felt like they wasted their money. People have the same complaints of needing to invest time to learn "every single little thing or I loose" in any competitive game whether it's a moba, fighting game, or a hero shooter, but ONLY fighting games are not free. I'm not a fan or Riot or League, but I'm going to be playing the fuck out of that game because I want shit to change.

As far as mtx goes, I'd RATHER just buy the game once and be done, than have to keep paying for everything new... But we all know that a fg being $70 has not stopped them from also trying to adopt f2p sales tactics. LoL objectively has a better monetization model then full price fighting games with a season pass. Average gamers can actually learn how to play first and play with friends without blowing most of a paycheck.

Something I think Sajam missed a little is that not only is League a pretty popular game, but _Arcane_ was insanely popular. Not that I think it really fundamentally changes anything he said, but I think the immediate numbers after launch are gonna be super high specifically because of League _and_ Arcane both bringing in new players from separate spaces. How many of them are gonna stick around? Eh... who knows.

You're really overestimating how many Arcane fans care about the League IP beyond the show itself. Riot has already said that despite its success as a series, Arcane has made nearly zero difference in the player counts of any of their games.

I'm actually weirdly not that excited for this year's fighting games. CotW: I'll try it, like how it looks at least, but I've bounced on two SNK games now (SamSho and KoF15), and I'm not super confident its gameplay will be for me. Hunter x Hunter: I love MvC3, but have no attachment to this IP - didn't know it existed before this game was announced, in fact. And it feels likely to be another DNF Duel situation, where it'll make a bit of a splash on launch, but the player base will rapidly dry up. 2XKO: Like the gameplay, but it being f2p leaves me nervous. Every other f2p game I've played has driven me away, to the point where I just don't touch them by default now. Hope we get a big ArcSys announcement this year that'll give me something to look forward to - and hopefully not just the next Guilty Gear. I'd be way more hype for Persona 5 Arena or a new BlazBlue.

I think 2025 might be a really bad year for fighting games on the back of 2xko alone. I can't see it influencing fg's positively at all. I like that fg's have been relatively protected from scummy f2p tactics so far, if that changes it will be sad for me because I'll have to stop caring about new fighting games. I am excited for VF5:REVO though. I wish they wouldn't have announced VF6 immediately haha, now it feels like VF5 won't get any time in the spotlight because people will be waiting for the next big one. If we're not getting a new Soul Calibur then new VF is the next best thing.

It's scummy to use addictive mechanics to target people who are less able to regulate their spending or their time, and to veil it all behind a layer of FOMO and misdirection. Then it'll drop off, all the people who actually like fighting games will stick around and the casuals will go back to Marvel Rivals or whatever. The discourse around 2XKO will be 'it's still too hard to play, it's not casual friendly enough'. Rinse repeat until the next fighting game release. Only game I care about is COTW, Terry in SF6 is fun but I need my projectile invincible Buster Wolf back.

With Soul Calibur and DOA dead, there is room for a new 3D fighter. VF is a revival, and its aesthetically similar to Tekken. Arena fighters don’t count, they haven’t tried to be competitively balanced. ArcSys making their own new IP 3D fighter would be amazing.

I wanna be hype for T8 in 2025 but the level of monetization, the shoddy business practices, and the lack of defensive counterplay to the heat system's forced mixup scenarios has turned me right off. If this is the future of fighting games then I'm probably cooked. I'm sure I'll crack open 2XKO, take one look at the cash shop and purchasable skins, and then uninstall. The future is bleak - but not just for fighting games, this is a trend in ALL games nowadays and I'm getting close to simply finding a new hobby instead.
