Fighting Heart Disease in Western Australia

Professor Livia Hool leads a growing team of scientists and researchers at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute’s hub based at the University of Western Australia. They’re dedicated to finding cures and new treatments to tackle the heart disease crisis in WA. Every day, 11 people in WA will die from heart disease. That’s more than 4,300 lives lost every year in WA alone. The team is already working on the world’s first treatment for big heart syndrome or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and has big plans to expand.
