This is a bit strange to find. I was friends and work colleagues with Lee's brother, Lawrie, long after all of this (ten years ago, I guess). I knew that Lee had a reputation, but I assumed it was just a north-east reputation, and not a KZbin-video-about-his-life reputation. Weird. Should anyone be wondering... Lawrie also had a tough up-bringing and by all accounts did some nasty things, but at some point he had some kind of spiritual awakening and ended up setting up a charity called Hope North East to help people in addiction recovery in Middlesbrough. I was a volunteer there for about five years. Lawrie did some really great work. Truly. He was certainly a work in progress (aren't we all), but he was a man dedicated to growing and to being of service to others, as best as he knew how. I lost touch with him and I believe he passed a few years ago. Middlesbrough has a very dark under-belly. There is no romance in any of this. Just a lot of pain for a lot of people. But I want people who read this to know that from that darkness came some light.

I used to train in the same gym in Redcar as Brian when he was in his prime. He was a different person then. Drive around in top cars, had multiple phones when they were rare. I remember him coming in after he'd been stabbed in the leg. I remember him breaking the jaw of a huge hard case who worked the door at Revels nightclub too, in a kebab shop like he said. Brian was incredibly strong too. He never caused any bother in the gym for the years I was there with him though. He seemed fairly decent really.

I worked in Middlesbrough for around 25 years, i live in Hartlepool. People would come in to work and tell the stories of Lee and his two bouncers and Brian with his gang. There where several other small firms knocking about from Redcar to Sunderland/Newcastle. Local beat bobbies would visit our work place and confirm these stories. The point iam making is people are making fun of Brian a ex addict but he can still hurt most men. Lee Duffy was a different animal he would walk into a bar and punch men and women without warning so he was a bully.
