Brilliant Interview once again. The Frelimo mail run being taken out and after "the Freds" getting a special dedicated edition of Forces Request compliments of RLI & PsyOps truly got me chuckling. Many thanks once again again Roy, Tony & FMOR crew for another diamond interview; looking very much forward to Pt IV 👍 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺

Thanks, Roy. It was great to hear about what went on at Villies. About the motorcycle, if I can remember Ken Bolton and I were the ones that had to help teach the rest how to ride bikes. On the way in if I can remember, it's the most I have ever fallen off a bike in that soft sand roads. You are correct in saying that we got to a stage that we thought we were insensible.

The Americans CIA were actively involved in Mozambique and Rhodesia when you arrived at camp and all occupants have left conveniently!

I was still a schoolboy living with my parents in Northend opposite Mizilikazi on the Falls Road in 1980/81. I remember loads of activity in that area. We could hear the fighting from our house. There was a large ZIPRA camp near my high school on the Falls Road.

Very entertaining once again Roy and Tony. I think without water in the tyres then the bikes might not have detonated anti tank mines. I can't remember what the pressure was to set off a TM 46 landmine?

Above 100 kg...with an APM on top 5 kg are enough...water in the tyres of bikes I will not comment...dont want to insult anyone
@calummackenzie1797Ай бұрын
@jurgen7579 ja, l knew it was quite high. The terrs also had a TM 74 (?) Which looked like a green painted cheese round. Canvas carrying handle molded in and 3 bakelite inserts for bakelite surrounded detonators. These you could even put an AP mine detonator in which l think only required something like 16 ounces of pressure. These mines could not be picked up by a metal detector as there was so little metal in them. Composite explosives that looked like a Crunchie bar inside. Golden honeycomb looking

My very first camp that I did with mortar platoon was June 76 at Vila's., Psy ops arrived in the evening., during dinner captain Pitchford called us all together and told the chaps on kitchen dutied the next day that he wanted us to have breakfast by 6am then we had to man the pits.., because Joe Azervado and the psy op's chaps were going to go down to the back fence and Joe being portugese was going to read doctored mail to the troops in Malvernia.., I asked which crew and which pit I should join because I had not been allocated a crew to work with., so sgt Lionel Welensky said I could help out in his pit no 6.., I was now his number 4.. eeeeeish the Freddies had serious humour failure that day and we had a stonk from hell.., so much so captain Pitchford had to request an air strike to bring it to a close at around 4.30 / 5pm that evening.., our evening entertainment that evening was standing in the pub at 8pm.." Combined Operations Head Quarters have issued a communique " Vila Salizar was subject to a heavy rocket., mortar and small arms fire., there were no reported casualties and minimal damage was done..here end the communique.."

Your understanding of Troposcater was way off the mark. It was to carry telephone traffic from Maputo to Mt Xuluvu and hence to Beira amongst other destinations. Nothing to do with America or spying.
