Male spider fighting can last so long.

I remember the days when we would keep these spiders in tiny cocoons made from some long blade of grass, then play them as fighters. The red ones are called Red Kids 紅孩兒. The ones shown in this video are called Golden Flowers 金花. Some of the Red Kids would one day spin silk around them inside the cocoon, and days later would emerge with completely different forms: black with silvery and golden spots or stripes, and the two big front arms would become twice as long and the spider with now walk in jerky steps with the two long arms hanging forward and downward like cranes! We called these changed spiders Old Pokers 老篤！Anyone knows why the metamorphosis happened?

The Pokers fight differently too: they start off trying to poke the opponent for a while like the way a human boxer jabs at his oppondnt, then lunge at it with the front arms stretched out sideway and then try to wrap the arms around the opponent as is seen in this video.

We would find some cactus like long grass with thorns along the edges. The grass blade would be cut to about 3, 4 inches long, then folded twice and with the segment at one end tucked into a slit cut into the segment at the other end to form a secure cocoon. Then we would go around the 'hood to challenge each other to see who had the best fighters! Fun!

Now very hard to get black species.l remember young time when l'm in primary school.l will go catch them at the bush near the fence.Almost all totally black with a bit of silvery and gold.l ever catch one specie that is very big with blue spot and stripe.

Metamorphosis depend on environment and the leave.Normally those found on big leave will not metamorphosis into other forms
