"They've been taken back to the wilderness. The place is different but the hunt goes on..." Let me know if you liked these unscripted looks at Classic Doctor Who (with some visual aids interspersed). If this video does well then I'll do more! So appease that algorithm with likes and comments!

Thinking about it; there's a lovely parallel that comes from Survival being the end of Classic Who. In Episode 3 of An Unearthly Child Chesterton needs to stop The First Doctor from killing caveman with a rock. In Survival, The Seventh Doctor throughs the rock away and stops himself from killing The Master. This clearly wasn't intended, but it does make for a funny little bookend moment.

They need to make a drama like An Adventure in Space and Time but about the McCoy era and the end of the show

Oooh, but who would you get to play Sylvester?
@benbastianiartmusic14212 жыл бұрын
@@MrTARDIS Michael Sheen or Tom Hollander. The journey from Time and the Rani to 'come on Ace, we've got work to do' would make excellent drama, I'm just imagining a scene where Sylv is getting super excited about the plans for Season 27 and then receives the call to tell him it's over... would be super emotional. The McCoy era needs to be paid tribute to as, to me, it paved the way for the RTD era. A teenage character from a troubled family, a black female brigadier, a lesbian subtext in 'Survival', a story about depression and happiness, a Dalek story about racism... Seasons 25 and 26 were honestly quite progressive for the 80s and I do feel Russell gathered a lot of inspiration from them.

McCoy recorded the final bit by Cartmel ('There are worlds out there...') on the 23rd November 1989, 26 years of Doctor Who. Something poetic and poignant about the 'survival' and legacy of Doctor Who as the Classic Era drew to an end.

I like that Classic Who didn't end with some larger than life climatic battle with Daleks or Cybermen. But an existential story on the nature of survival itself.

I cannot believe it just dawned on me the similarity of this story to An Unearthly Child. They both have a core message of "we are stronger when we work together". It was completely unintentional but it's a great bit of going full circle

I disagree with 7:31 (the Doctor's home). It drops him right beside the TARDIS, and it also mirrors Ace (who calls the TARDIS 'home' at the very end). As we know, this era avoided using the TARDIS interior as much as possible, mostly because the original prop was on the way out -- and also because the writers only saw it as a means of getting the team from A to B, rather than a base of operations or a big plot element. As such, he was dumped in the street beside it (rather than inside it). The TARDIS will always be the Doctor's home, despite the fact that we do have very 'earthly' Doctors.

With the final quote, it’s that although Classic Who was over in 1989, the Doctor would still be out there and there’s a sense of hope that one day he would return.

Technically the Doctor gets put back right next to the TARDIS so you could argue The Doctor's home was the TARDIS not Earth

Honestly if they were going to reboot Doctor who into a movie franchise or something I’d love them to start with those final lines from this episode.

Survival is dripping in the finality of its atmosphere. Gorgeous. Feels very proto-1990s drama, too, aesthetically and musically.

Survival was the only one confirmed by the writer, but Ace had a lot of gay subtext in her stories. Which is why its kinda disappointing that, to my knowledge, none of the EU material has ever made her more explicitly WLW and has consistently portrayed her as exclusively straight.
