Great job finished. Don't get spoiled driving that JD. We closed up a 28 year old hog lagoon and had it cleaned out with pay loader and and excavator. They loaded it on side dumps and hauled to a field two years ago. I am on about 200 loads so far of hauling with a 195 NH spreader. So I know what you mean with solids. We did use a pump like you had but it could not get the solids up. Again thanks for your video's.

Really interesting watching from Ireland. Although we don’t have farms on that scale, it’s interesting to see the difference in how you handle the cattle slurry. Over here we’ve just entered what’s called the closed period for the winter. Between 15th October & 31st January no slurry can be spread & outside of that it can only be spread by injection or dribble bar methods. As a result most bigger farms use contractors now. They run umbilical systems & depending on distance between the yard & the land being spread they either pump direct or the tankers are just ferrying the manure, not spreading it.

I would think a separator to remove some of the solids before it got to the pit would work better (which Tom also has), but I'm not sure it could handle the Sask winter or how fast the sand would wear out the parts of the separator.

I was wondering if its possible to get a front end loader in the pit? Then you could clean it out entirely. Have a tractor at the ramp to assist pulling a rig out of the pit or even just dumping it over the side to be picked up by something else. Or maybe something along the lines of an excavator to reach over the sides and scoop it out? Seems like there could be someway to get all the solids out to utilize its full capacity at least once a yar?
@MellowYe77ow Жыл бұрын
Yes, Jan did it one year, but he didn't enjoy doing it. That's why they have the lagoon crawler come out. (Normally there's more liquid for it to work with)

I’m surprised at how many people don’t replace that houle splash pan with a husky pan, and do 6” piping all the way to the pan. We turned the 540 fan housing at 800 rpm on a 7000 gallon tank and could unload faster than the guy who was helping us with his 6300 gallon and the standard houle pan. Time is money, and anyway to gain time is more money in your pocket.

It's also a question of quantity. It would take a hundred years of hauling manure to add a quarter inch of sand over an acre of land. In the meantime because you are harvesting crop off the same land you are also adding organic matter.
