The Fightlite stuff is very cool. An old guy tried selling me a lever gun the last time I was at the gun store. Fightlite’s offering really bridges the generational gap.

You do not need a piston upper. The buffer system uses a rat tail and truncated bolt carrier that actions at a downward angle into the grip.

That feature where you can switch right to mags after your belt fed runs out is really really good when stuff gets really bad, that kind of multifunctionality will save lives. Why that ain't a standard feature for squadron weapons even in some little capacity I'll never understand. I'll take the 16-in belt fed upper and put it on a binary trigger lower with a pistol grip and that stubby stock on the 16-in lever gun and you have a one-man capable machine gun nest. Very easy to carry 450 to 500 rounds of belt fat ammunition, and six or seven 65 round stick mags in case you run out of that. Can make one man very dependable.

@@Beuwen_The_Dragon I'll have to keep note of that, I just think it's always a good idea to have that physical capability built within a design if it is practical, because I know for shit in certain that sometimes ammunition isn't really the problem, it's the way that you're able to put it into your gun. And when I'm getting shot at I don't want to have this precious seconds and moments spent fiddling around with a mechanism when I can just shove a new mag in and keep suppression going down range.

@@Beuwen_The_Dragon also the secondary difference is I believe this is a smaller platform, which is good for squad-based activities, that replaceable barrel will hopefully negate to some capacity many of the issues that come from having a high rate of fire, you have two or three extra barrels you'll be able to consistently rotate them without worrying about having a fresh barrel to go through.

As much as I can love and respect a good NJ legal AR platform rifle, I would be honored to call the model 2024 Herring a more American gun than its semi-auto counterpart. I'm not rubbing the AR the wrong way. It's just that a lever gun is more American from a historical standpoint. If they get the design right with little to no flaws, then it will be more reliable and easier to clean than an AR. Here's to hoping that it comes out soon.

mag fed mare's leg does sound fun, but both those lowers have really, REALLY unsuable milspec mag releases, whether you're right or left handed. Gonna be hard to do a mag change in any amount of time, especially on the lever lowers.

It's a lever gun at the core. Not semi auto in anyway and AR are a constitutional right plus available in most states. Minus the few trying to ban them it's a very common platform off the shelf.

I grew up around guns. I do not own a single gun. That said these look fantastic. They skirt that line between tactical and survival. The only concerns I would have is this - The stock does not look adjustable, when you are talking lever action, you often keep it sighted while you cycle it. That could be an issue if the shouldering is uncomfortable. That and your hand naturally will want to rest under the barrel. Does that get hot? There is no rest / grip there. (And I am not talking about that 2-3 finger pinch crap)

Good point about the buttstocks not being adjustable, I'm assuming that they are sized for the "average sized" person. Also a lot of the barrels on newer guns "float" in the hand guards up front so as to not conduct heat. I'm assuming as long as you don't grab the actual barrel and not any of the other components you should be fine, unless you're talking about the quick change barrel on the belt fed, absolutely use gloves if you are dumping enough ammo to get it hot enough to warrant a barrel change.
