I have been in the cabal since late 2017 or early 2018, it used to be one of the coolest tight-knit groups ever. It use to have that cool bros kinda vibe, guys horsing around, funny jokes, having fun and being very helpful towards newer collectors, also many would offer words of encouragement, it was an awesome down-to-earth group in the beginning. But then the group grew exponentially and they got a bunch of those assholes from the black series and action figure junkie lol who try to put other people down, they put some as mods, now people cannot add any kinda criticisms without getting canceled. Most of those jerks are newer members, the original dudes who were in it were super cool, but a lot of the original members are not as active.

I have around 25 figures from FHM and the proportions are indeed not well chosen, especially when it comes to the length of the legs. The heads - as long as they are humanoid heads and not helmets - are usually much too big (and can easily keep up with any corresponding ML figure in terms of lollipop syndrome). Nevertheless, if you pose them well, the figures have a certain appeal that sets them apart from the usual other action figures - especially in terms of sculpting and painting. But imho, there is no manufacturer, no figure line that convinces everyone and is flawless. If you are willing to accept the respective appeal, the main thing in the end is the joy you feel (without just serving cognitive dissonance). And something like objectivity in personal feelings is imho almost impossible. It always depends on what compromises you are willing to make and what a compromise actually is.

Having bought a fair number of Four Horsemen figures, while I like them a lot, one of the consistent points where I need to go in and tighten things up is the hips, at the hinge and the swivel point where it plugs into the pelvis. Most of the time I need to do this on both your basic 1.0 style Legions bodies and the smaller 2.0 style Legions bodies. The exceptions to that are the larger Ogre-scale figures, like the Azahazzar you looked at before. Ogre-scale used to have the male-end plugging into female style hip setup that are on older NECA figures (and still on many NECA Predators), but they replaced those with the ball & socket with Decebalus in the Illythia wave. The newer Brute-scale figures also have a ball & socket hip setup. I'd honestly like to see 4H update the hip setup on all the 1.0 and 2.0 Legions style figures to a ball & socket setup, though I'm sure that'll piss off some of the avid Legions pop-n-swappers.

This is the only issue i have with this line. There is no way to tighten the hips like other lines, trying only makes it worse.

I bought this guy and felt similar. It was pretty good, but the negatives hold him back. The figure does reuse plenty of mythic legion pieces. The painted parts glow better than the green plastic. Also, the wrist hinge for the pumpkin head goes loose pretty quick.
@Imnotquestlove

It’s legions parts repurposed. Reuse is really big in this line for the modularity of it all. This line will have new pieces specific to the character but the core body is usually legions.

I have the original release. While he does have a handful of issues (especiallythe wrist for holding the pumpkin), once you get it posed up nicely (which is a pain in the ASS), he's a fantastic center piece that gets peoples attention. Plus i just love looking at it myself. As for the horse, i really wish the horse had a little bit more extra as well.

Mythic Legions and Figure Obsura reuse a lot of parts between the lines and that inevitably will turn a lot of people off. That, the price, and the obsession with single jointed bodies. When you buy Four Horsemen you’re getting a beautiful paint job and a figure that no other brand is doing. Like FH did a Krampus and figures based on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and Edgar Allen Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death.

I dig the designs more on their Cosmic Legions, but they all have some tightness issues here and there. Possibly because they make them to interchange parts and customize, so the tolerances might be looser?

I could see putting the reins in the left hand then adding the sword to keep them in, then having the sword parallel to the ground but perpendicular to the horse... Am I overthinking this? I think so at this point.

Couldn’t tell what you were pointing at but the bridle is the horse’s head gear, the Mane is his hair on his neck and the reigns is what the horseman pulls to steer. The image quality also looks really good, I’m not sure if it’s just placebo but there seems to be a lot more detail.

I don’t own a single Four Horsemen figure, because most of their designs and limited articulation don’t appeal to me; and this particular figure’s no exception. However, their Figura Obscura ‘Bast’ figure looks so gorgeous that even with the limited articulation, I’m very tempted by it. Would you consider doing a review for that? I’d love to hear your assessment

I think the headless horseman having a neck that’s longer than normal is fine. I personally didn’t notice the neck length, but I think it just adds to his creepy look. Along with that, I think it’s a bit unreasonable that you’re disappointed that the figure can’t hold three things at the same time. I understand you believe the figure would look better with the pumpkin being held, but that display preference is still just a preference and FMH “not accounting for that” doesn’t seem like a design flaw (or at the very least a minimal one).

I respect your opinion, but really this was my favorite figure from last year. I love the Horseman and especially genetic ones with out specific licenses. I won’t deny it has flaws, but in the end I got this guy set up in my closet as a bookend to my horror movies and I gush every time I walk in and see him. Especially with the back drop the figure comes with.

I only have a half dozen or so figures from them, and I'm pretty agnostic about the line. I wanted a few goblins & things for my D&D characters to fight. Poseability is just barely enough to get that job done. I like the interchangeability of parts that allows you to armybuild without just having the exact same figure over and over. Paint and sculpt are good, though I think NECA is better in some respects. Haven't had much of an issue with joints, but then again, I tend to just pose them and leave them like that. Overall, that's probably where I'll stop. They're by no means bad figures, I just don't have much need for any figures beyond the ones I have. Their core strength is diversifying your army-building and they're just a tad too pricy for that purpose, IMO.

I feel like you just insulted my entire collection, lol! Mythic Legions are not for everybody, but I've been collecting them since the beginning and I love them, they're some of my most cherished figures in my collection. I don't have many but each figure holds great value for me. In my opinion they're the closest any domestic company has come to figures being art, and as art, not everybody will appreciate and value them fully. Some people want double joints on everything, appropriate or not, as if only having that will make the figure perfect. Some people don't care for great sculpting and painting, and that's why marvel legends sell so well (one of the reasons at least). I'm not saying they're perfect, far from it. The articulation could be better, they could easily add butterfly joints to the shoulders, sh figuarts style, without changing a lot and it would add immensely to the poseability. Sometimes joints become loose, just like any insert molded joint does, or sometimes the joints are too stiff. Sometimes the heads are too big or the shoulders not big enough, lollipop syndrome in the helmets, etc, etc. They're not perfect, but as an artist myself I recognize the passion an artist puts in their pieces, and I see that passion on Mythic Legions, just like I see it sometimes on Neca figures or others. The effort to try to make them better each time, to design better joints that add more poseability, to add more accessories each time, to add more wired clothing everywhere, to paint every last buckle on a knight (I've counted 28 on a single figure, all painted!). All for basically the same price since the beginning. This love and passion for the toys the 4 Horsemen put in is something most people would wish for their favorite line. You don't feel the love and passion in marvel legends, black series, Mcfarlane figures, or even DST figures. Heck, sometimes I don't feel it in other indie lines (I do see the passion in your line for example, even in this early stage. They look great!). I feel like you haven't checked out the best they offer yet. I have the original Headless Horseman and while I agree with many of your points, I just don't see the long legs or neck in mine, but maybe I'm accustomed to it. I do feel like they released the lesser version for retail, and that is a practice I completely disagree with them. They do stuff like that sometimes, and it's not great, but it's a business in the end, and they want their stuff to sell out, but also to please fans who aren't able to get all their figures when they're sold out. I feel like you should check out the knights. Specially the new templar knights that are coming this year. Even more detailed sculpts, more paint, better articulation, lots of wired soft goods, lots of accessories, all for the same price, I mean only Neca can hold a candle to them and the value they pack in to their normal prices figures, and even then I haven't really seen a figure from them do it, imo. There's a reason why so many people love these figures, even with single joints and stylized proportions. Look up other reviews or photos on instagram. You'll see how the articulation, while limited, allows for far greater posing than you would first imagine. You'll see the creativity people show with their mixing and matching parts, the awesome figures they create. How awesome the figures look interacting with each other, or taking photos out in the world with them. I was one of the first to take photos of a mythic legions knight in a castle-like place, all the way back in 2016! Anyways, sorry for the rant. You can tell I like these figures, lol. Hopefully you give other figures a chance.

I like the ones I have purchased so far. The cosmic legions Kanoxx Vull and Slogg are a little limited, but look great imo and I wasnt expecting anything super posable from them. I have the figura obscura gods of egypt set which seem to have good proportions, more range in articulation and to be a pretty accurate representation. I'll definitely get a valiant knight if I get the chance.

Four Horsemen stans talk about the company like it's the pinnacle of collectibles. I don't get it. The sculpts and deco are nice, but so much of it is reusing the same molds over and over, they don't have a lot of points of articulation and what's there is limited and not especially well engineered, and they don't really come with much more than most NECA figures, and yet they're almost twice as expensive. All of their stuff is original IP and public domain characters, so there's no licensing costs. NECA reuses molds a lot for their aliens and predators, but a significant amount of their releases are mostly original tooling for that release; unless it's a repaint/variant of the same character. For instance, Nosferatu and Phantom were both public domain characters. NECA's figures of them came with about as much in the package as most Figura Obscuras. Some of the Obscuras have a _little_ more, like Jacob Marley and Father Christmas, but not enough to be twice the price. NECA's Phantom comes with five headsculpts, three sets of hands, a hat, softgoods coat, a cane, is entirely original tooling (MAYBE the shoes are reused?), and he costs $38. Four Horsemen's Krampus comes with a single headsculpt, two sets of hands, functional bells and shackles with real chains, a basket with real twine, two skulls and hand accessories, and some some branches. It's also almost entirely repurposed parts from their Mythic Legions line, and significantly worse articulated compared to NECA's Phantom, which isn't even an especially well articulated figure to begin with. It's $65; nearly twice as much. You could argue that the spread of accessories for Krampus has more value, particularly with the real chains, bells, and twine, and that the figure is physically more massive and therefore more expensive, but $65? With mostly reused parts? I could accept $45, maybe $50. Comparing it to NECA's Bela Lugosi Dracula would be even more damning, considering it comes with debatably more in the box than Phantom, and NECA had to pay licensing fees not only to Universal but also to Bela Lugosi's estate for his likeness rights. I'm not trying to hop on NECA's lap and go to town, but dollar for dollar it's a significantly better value. I don't care what products come from what companies. I just recognize good products and value when I see them, and NECA consistently has products of better value for the money than any other toy company. I really want to like Four Horsemen. I'm especially interested in the Figura Obscura line. I wish more companies would do original takes on public domain characters. But they're just not offering enough value for the price tags.

You can put the sword on the saddle, there's a loop. The figure is amazing, you don't really need insane articulation if the figure looks so good. The sculpt carries it far and you can still be very dynamic with the figure. If you leave him in a lame pose then of course he'll look lame. Once you had him posed up on the horse he looked insanely better. The posing ,in my opinion, is not limiting at all, you can still hit any pose you would need.

After a couple Cosmic Legions and the nice enough but equally as frustrating this Father Christmas figure, I can say that Four Horsemen figures aren't for me. I'd rather go Super7 Ultimates and (usually) get more accessories with the same amount of articulation, near the same price point. Or at least more unique accessories. King Conan has two blades, two heads, and 4 removable costume items. The Worst (Super7 originals) line blows away Figure Onscura line; especially the hilarious Batula.

This is basically the only Four Horsemen line I collect, and by collect I mean just the Christmas ones so far. This is a figure I really want to like, but your review is a really good, honest, look at a figure that's got a lot of the visual details right, but the execution just isn't really there. At least not enough to make me want to spend the money on it. My experience with the figures I do have is that they look great in neutral poses because the sculpted details are wonderful, the paint is usually fantastic, and they even do soft goods pretty well when warranted. Posing their figures is absolutely no fun and most of them will basically only stand in the most neutral of poses. Four Horsemen also sculpted a lot of the Super7 Turtles and they're plagued with loose hips. That's mostly on Super7 and their quality control, but I just hate that hinged-peg setup for hips and it's what those figures use as well. Give me big ole ball sockets because at least if they come out too loose it's a relatively easy thing to fix. I do think some of the looseness that crops up with these figures is related to the modular element. It's supposed to be easy to pop the arms off so the tolerance isn't as tight as it could be. The Figura Obscura stuff that I do have has stayed pretty tight, at least, but that also is due to me not really messing with them.

I feel like even though articulation critique is fair, hating mythic legions is just becoming a "popular opinion to look smart". Like hating WWE even when TNA/AEW do sh1t. I mean... It often comes from the same people who are okay with Marvel Select, does it sound fair then? Every line has it's strong and weak sides and you just decide if that's for you or not. Amazing yamaguchi can't stand straight and often has weird stuff going on with holding accessories in place, but they are unbeatable in dynamic poses. 4H gives you awesome looking fantasy and cosmic stuff, which is well designed, well painted and even the reuse of parts doesn't look bad. But they don't have as good of articulation as we would've love, yes. You weigh pros and cons and you decide for yourself. The last thing we need in a toy community is a side vs side hate. Thanks but no thanks, global politics give us enough of that already. Thanks for review, everything sounds pretty fair. Now I'm much less upset that my HH arrived broken and poorly packaged, so i had to return it. Probably for the better, because this cape just drives me mad now. P.S. they've recently upgraded their cloth goods though, now it is properly tailored and properly wired, really love it.
