Yeah, I agree that he didn't seem interested in the piece, but he played like it. He is the GREATEST violist ever. He can play any song and have people want to listen to it so I don't think that the audience was not entertained. He is a perfect player so no bad comments anymore please!!!!!!!!

@kyleclef Actually, this piece was originally for viola, but Weber changed it to bassoon.

If he were just performing the piece with the orchestra as a guest it would be expected that he would play from memory, but he is also actually conducting the ensemble. The music may be more for the benefit of little notes written to himself so that he knows where to cue the orchestra. Also the sheer amount of repertoire he cranks out makes it almost impossible to memorize everything.

Yes, there is an arrangement for Bassoon too ^.^

it is in the bassoon version.

Has anyone noticed the slightly different shape to Yuri's viola?
@darkgnir14 жыл бұрын
i prefer the anna serova's version, this one is technically flawless however lacks a little bit of humor and roughtness. i dont know i just prefer that way, but i love yuri anyway.

It isn't the string. It is the instrument. You need your bridge replaced with a better cut bridge. You might also benefit from a re-planing of the fingerboard.

@kyleclef I simply agree

I'm a big fan of Yuri Bashmet's-- I think he is one of the greatest living violists (along with Pinchas Zukerman and Kim Kashkashian)-- however, I was not excited by this particular performance. It's professional and clean, but somehow feels... routine. Granted, this is a very light piece-- there's nothing too deep about it-- but he just doesn't seem very engaged with the material. However, he can and does play romantic repertoire beautifully-- like Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata.

What orchestra is this? Date of recording?
@jaschweigert15 жыл бұрын
Actually, written for viola, then transcribed for bassoon.

he doesn't seem too happy when he finishes the piece....

Actually Kim is better cuz she isnt a burnt out alcoholic. I watched her perform Bartok like with the Cleveland Orchestra and her performance put anything I have heard from Bashmet to shame. Although he is still FREAKING AMAZING. Just not as much so.

Very well done, but the audience looks bored to death!

seriously! could he be any less interested?

A good performance of the Rondo section, but the high part where you are practicably picking your nose (you viola players know what I mean) could barley be heard - which makes me sad because I worked my butt off to get that perfectly in tune (which is still isn't!) but to know it will just be covered up by the orchestra (much like a lot of the pice) is disheartening. I'm glad that I picked the Bloch Suite for Viola and Orchestra to audition in a competition with rather than this piece.
@jaschweigert15 жыл бұрын
You must not listen to much Bashmet then.
@bckm5417 жыл бұрын
Something is missing here. I'm not sure what it is, maybe the passion, maybe the technique, but it sounds somewhat subpar. Also I think a violist of his stature should play from memory and not need the music - it seems a little amateurish to me. The camera work is simply dreadful - focusing on musicians who are not playing - sad.
