@@frankjerke Palab M1 Mini is really underrated for its performance, I would try to go with it if possible, or Mojo. K5PRO has a nice sound, but not as detailed and resolute as the others that are more pricey

K5PRO should be enough for HD650, and so would JD Labs Atom. The difference is in features, K5PRO has a DAC inside and is more complete. I would generally consider Atom warmer and thicker, smoother. For HD650 in particular, I would recommend K5PRO more

Happy to help! This one is more neutral, the Atom is warmer, thicker, somewhat more impactful, but K5 PRO has better detail and clarity. Overall, I like the K5 PRO a bit more, and it sounds more balanced, but the JDS Labs Atom works better with really bright or really neutral sounding Headphones. From the two, K5 PRO works a bit better with IEMs.

Hi, I don't tink so, because K5 PRO has RCA outputs and not XLR. You would need converters and even then, it may not sound that good. I am not sure if anything below 500 USD would work for an XLR input

So Currently I have the Tannoy Gold 5 active speakers connected to the K5 pro, it works great. What if I want to add a sub woofer to it, is there a way to do it ? And how will I connect it ?

@@ceddy1031 woah, did you get RCA to XLR cables or used converters ? As I understand, that tanoy has XLR inputs. You need an active sub with active crossover or passthrough. Basically, the cables from the DAC will go inside the sub, and the sub had outputs that go inside the tanoy . This is how the setup would look like

Hello George and youtube, I'm from Romania to but i will ask for your advice in english in case the answer will also help other people out there. So basically, i have a stereo system that contains a pair of Dali Zensor 3, powered by an Yamaha As-501 amp and a SVS PB-1000 subwoofer. I delayed the acquisition of an dac for a long time because i'm not really sure if a 1000 Ron (200 euros) budget dac will be better than the dac my amp already has. I still use a basic sound card from my computer. For me, it's important to improve my sound from the speakers, the headphones amp is a secondary think. Do you think this dac would bring a noticeable difference in the sound quality of my system and would you recomand some other Dac in 1000 Ron budget that better fit my needs? Thank you in advance for your advice and keep up the good work.

Thank you for your kindness, and you raise a very good question! Having anything else than the on-board sound should bring a HUGE imcprovement. It does so almost 100% of the time. To me, my on-board sounds like a potato next to K5 PRO. As for your question, about what I could recommend in the same price range, K5 PRO has a lot going on for it, and the price is really good. There's also Topping E30, for which my video is going live really soon, and it has good performance, and even lower price, but has no headphone output. Also I love the design of K5 PRO a lot. There's also the option of getting a TR-AMP from Earmen, which has a great sound, and use it as a DAC, has a good chip inside. Those are just a few, there are more, but those really make themselves remarked in terms of price / quality ratio. Hope this helps!

i'm new to this stuff and not an audiophile myself, but I saw a few tech channels recommending higher impedance headphones for more immersive gaming, and I figured I might as well use them for music as well, as far as the budget friendly options go, for a dac/amp so which is the better option? this, or the Schiit Stack?

Both are good, this one is simpler to set up and use, while Schiit stacks are less friendly to newcomers. If you want a one piece solution, this is it, while if you want to play with the setup, Schiit stacks are customisable and can be played with

...also I assume that if I use the preamp on this it disables the amp part of it, and thus just uses the dac? I ask because I am looking at upgrading my pc audio setup and going with a set of bookshelf sterio speakers, along with a 10 inch sub woofer that all get plugged into a sterio amplifier, but I don't want to run the risk of blowing out those speakers (I may also get a turntable in the future and an RCA switcher as the paticular sterio amp I am looking at only has 1 RCA in on it.)

Does the k5 pro have protection relay? I'm a fan of very impulsive and snappy sound - dynamics. I don't like rounded off artificially soft sound. Do you think I should pick the k5 pro or jds atom. Or would I be good owning either. Jds is hard to get in my country while k5 is easily available.

I think that from K5 to E17K, it wouldn't be much of an upgrade. More like, from K5 to K5PRO, it would be interesting , because K5PRO also has a DAC chip, and may sound better overall, because it has better AMP than E17K had.

@@Erunest Welp, Atom is still great, but Schiit stuff is not available at all in Romania, and when a friend let me try some of the schiit high end stuff, i was not impressed, so since then I decided to not wander into the schiit stuff. I made a video about Atom, it is very different from K5 PRO in sound

@@AudiophileHeaven Oh the schiit high end stuff seems to be very variing. Some are great, some are bad. The entry level seems to be pretty solid. But a comparison to the atom would be fine as well. The biggest issue i see in this amp is, that it is only recommended to go up to 300 ohm. Thats the reason i went the schiit route (atom lab was 100 euro more expensive than my schiit stack).

Yes, I actually tested that, but you still need to have it connected to a wall outlet, it can receive signal from phone, but not power

Hello, recently I got my HD800s and upgraded my FiiO E10K to FiiO K5 Pro for that reason. Today I decided to test both Amps side by side, did my best to volume match and was kind of surprised. With both Amps at the same volume only differences I hear ( on 5k pro) are faster bass (very obvious), less background noise, maybe (big maybe, because it may be just in my head) better instrument separation and super small difference in tonality that can be a volume miss match. I don't see much difference between E10K and K5 Pro compared to E10K and my phone which is more obvious. All the zings and little details in the music I can spot on both AMPs pretty much about the same. Am I too noob to hear a proper difference in texture of sound or there isn't much difference between cheaper dac/amp combos? If I'm wrong I would be happy to hear some tips on how to spot more differences between these 2. Thanks a lot :)

Hi there, the differences are not that large, you would need a serious step up to hear more and even then , it may not be large enough for you to notice it. HD800 is a hard to master beast, also it is very high impedance which means it is a bit more stable, it sounds similar across sources, unless you're willing to go to something that's a serious step up like Feliks Echo or Audio-GD Master 19, it may be more worth to enjoy what you have Budget stuff is much closer to each other than it may seem, for HD800 K5 Pro is generally great, you could try JDS Atom for ab alternative sonically

@@AudiophileHeaven Hey, I was recommended Feliks Echo but I have cats and I don't want them to burn them self with the tubes. I heard about Audio-GD Master 19 but for some weird reason I don't trust that brand even tho I have no problems against stuff like SMSL and Topping. Tomorrow I will try Mytek Liberty DAC in store, do you think its a good AMP/DAC for the price range it is at? Or you have better recomendations?

@@omaior20 Tha's a pretty hard choice, LCD2C and Hd600 are interesting. You probably won't grab HD600 much if you have 800, but you may still want LCD2 for its bass

Very good question, since I only heard this one so far, I can't say how it compares to DX3 PRO, but K5 PRO is pretty much in line or slightly better than most DAC/AMPs I could find for this price, if you want a desktop unit.

@@ИгорьСеверский-н6ш Not at all, I would expect it to be pretty good, just I had a hard time getting my hands on it, so I cannot recommend it at the moment. I expect to be reviewing Topping products as well in the near future, but at this point, I would go with K5PRO for sure, being something I can easily recommend from experience. We are supposed to always recommend only based on experience.
