Fiji - Passing Through God's Country

For day 4 of our Fiji trip, we leave Tavua to head off to God's country... aka Vatukoula (a goldmine town). It's there that we get to see where Ed lived and his dad grew up. Before we finally make it to to the Dreamview Villas in Rakiraki, we stop off at Golden Point Resort for a late lunch (The food and views are incredible and worth checking out!).

Isaaaaaaaaaa good to see workers of Vatukoula Gold mine of after World War 2 who lived there for years returning again with their kids to visit again and see their families still living in Viti Levu Well worldwide Pandemic lockdowns finished traveling full swing again like before 2020 Enjoy all the time and be full of happiness God bless always guys

I confess i'm just catching up on your fantastic Vlogs after stumbling on your last few days in Fiji Vlog with the Family @ The Boatshed. Excited to view in this one of Vatukoula where i was born in the 60s. My mum's side of the family worked in the mines there in the 50s, 60s, 70s etc. Mum was from the "Work" family and Mr. Greig may remember them. Most of the "Kailoma families" have left Vatukoula over the years except some of our cousins the Handyside who still live there today. Absolutely enjoying your vlogs...Vinaka vakalevu for sharing.

Is your family's name Handyside or is that your cousins? And I can ask my dad if he remembers your fam. If you watched the video, how's the neighborhood look now from when you grew up?

@@edandlex My mum was from the Work family and we have relatives with the Handyside family in old Vatukoula. The old hood is so different and i remember seeing it run down and beyond repair when i was last there many years ago. Kind of makes me feel sad whenever i visit as it was such a vibrant progressive mining town back then in the 60s and 70s.

You haven't stepped foot in the island to the north called Vanua Levu. There are three provinces there called: Bua (Cakaunitabua); Macuata (Caumatalevu); Cakaudrove (Lalagavesi). To the furthest north is the province of Rotuma (Gagaji). To the south is Kadavu (Nodraivakaruru). To the east is Lomaiviti. And then there's the scattered little islands of Lau (Naduruvesi).
