I bought the 4 axis unit for my company back in 2015. It was a nightmare and never produced a single finished part in over 2 years of trying to make it work. We ended up doing a lot of rebuilding including replacing the horrible brass bushings used with proper self-aligning bearings, upgrading the power supply which couldn't deliver the required current needed for all 4-axis of drives & then still had to struggle with the g-code generated which ended up requiring many edits of carriage speed to even get the paths to align correctly. In the end the software would crap out & force the payout eye to ram into the mandrel at some random interval & destroy the wind, after receiving no feedback on many assistance inquiries I found out in the user forum that this issue had been acknowledged & patch generated, honestly I felt like taking a sledge hammer to it after giving up 3 months of my own weekends trying to make it work. Our principle application was dome end vessels, but it appears people get these machines working ok for simple tubes. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking to do more than make a tube.

I have a 2x x winder and I have done a bunch of mods to it and it works great. I would love to see you try and dry wind something and then vacuum resin infuse it.

your low-angle helix (almost hoop-like coils) would be good for holding pressure, but won't make a very strong beam --or torsion tube, either).

Id like to see some more on the winder both 2 and 4 axis. This would be useful in Motorsport. Maybe a tapered cone? Or a velocity stack type shape?

I have one, lots of problems that need to be addressed. Working on making something to implement less resin. Even with the doctor blade you can expect a lot of excess resin. For now I recommend using low viscosity resins.

Hi Do you have any new projects in the foundry regarding the X-winder? I would on a personal level be interested in knowing the X-winders maximum production sizes and limitation. What sort of test have you done the last 2 years? Love your videos! NoX

@Matthieu, would you mind if I'd ask you a technical question? I am about to laminate some things and am not 100% sure about my strategy and wanted to check it up with someone that is a lot more experienced with composites (and composites from EC in the UK). So: I am about to laminate or "skin" a 3D printed model that I allready prepared. Due to its shape I am not able to do it with one large piece of fabric and I do not have a facuum infusion setup, so there is no way to properly press it against the print while it cures. My thought is that if I prepare everything precisely and press the pieces of fabric close together (not overlap) I should be able to finish it to a nice look after the resin is cured. I understand that it compromises the strength, for that I also include strips of spread tow ribbon to actually connect all the pieces together. Would you do this (with the materials and tools I have available) the same way or would you advise me to do it another way? I did a couple of test pieces and learned a lot form it. It should work out but the shape is quite a challenge. To not clutter your comment section more than needed, you can find more info about the project here: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3016320-Autonomous-paramotor-%28Opale-Hybrid-5-2%29 And finally: you can answer in English or Dutch, I decided to comment in English so everyone can understand it.

Results never seem that satisfactory with these winders. Roll wrapping seems much more straightforward and easier to get good results for tubes.

can you create a pressure tank with this machine?
@robertnickel7864
@robertnickel7864 5 жыл бұрын
It should work, but usually you have to have a metal or plastic shell to overwrap. Any slight imperfections in the wind can result in leaks. Also should go without saying that if you intend on being near the pressure tank, you should do hydraulic testing first to ensure it'll withstand the highest pressures you expect.
