Ok. Maybe the answer to the question of why 5 PALS loops for the USMC pouch. The ILBE assault pack is 5 loops wide on the back. I know it’s not a FILBE but maybe that’s pertinent of it
@cagneybillingsley21655 ай бұрын
it's the same with the canteen pouches and some of the gp pouches, the molle in ucp and desert, or woodland, are slightly bigger than their coyote usmc counterparts. i'm not exactly sure why, i think they wanted to use less material and save weight, and have it dry faster(presumably because marines are in the water more) it's the reason they use a lower denier fabric too.

I have to say I prefer the MOLLE ii versions, both in size and quality of the material

Good video. You took the time to measure the dimensions, which I was lazy about. On my FILBEs, I've found I wasn't able to properly center the USMC sus pouch. It is always offset one PALS loop to the left or right. I guess they expected to use two on the back or is it the front. On the main body of the pack, under the lid in any case. Something to be wary of for those who are pedantic or with OCD.

I've also had some trouble maximising the usability of the PALS webbing: I mounted the MOLLE ii sustainment pouches as close to the frame as possible and that left me with 1 vertical row of PALS unused, now with the FILBE pouches I have 2 slots of PALS left over, but I think I may have found a solution to make use of those too, video with the complete set-up soon to come

@@thatpackguy If required, I suppose those extra loops could be used to tie something onto the pack or maybe attach something narrow like a flashlight pouch, glow sticks etc
@Billofthenorth18 ай бұрын
As an additional thought, an extra loop or two at each level means that a pouch could me moved over a little bit and remain secure if one of the loops gets ripped out or damaged.

@@Billofthenorth1 I still don't like not being able to use the space effectively though, at least that was until recently as I think I found the perfect pouch combination..finally after years :D

btw, filbes are 13usd on amazon, and it takes up roughly 5 sections of molle.

really good video. I actually have an F1 mainframe. I wanted a simple pouch to ruck different weight pig eggs. I wasn't sure of the size of these things. I'm thinking the green pouch may hold a 15-20 lb bricks. So I am going to start with that one and see how it goes.

if the filbe were made in 1000D it would be perfect,because that 500D nylon wears out pretty quickly
@thatpackguy8 ай бұрын
true I've seen some pretty worn out rucks especially on the bottom. 500D feels like minimum requirements
@jerryrichards81727 ай бұрын
Being the pals aer so far above each other i would like to how they mount. It looks like you would mount from the top leaving the bottom bouncing around or the bottom with the top flopping over ? ❤ Thanks for sharing.
@thatpackguy7 ай бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean, the pouches are able to mount at the top and bottom of the FILBE

That's really interesting. I thought about the lack of a website/tool showing diagrams of the PALS layouts for different kinds of bags/pouches, but cba to put any time into it right now, I'm too sparse for video production already.. Considering FILBE - I really thought about buying some, but the price for a complete one from my retailer just isn't worth it to me right now considering I get nearly half a dozen "job lot" MOLLE II rucks needing repairs for the same price.. Thanks for the video, regards oz!
@thatpackguy8 ай бұрын
Thank you Oz! Yes the full pack set-up is quite pricey for the FILBE, definitely retails for much more compared to the MOLLE ii rucks. Keen to see more repairs on those!

Good comparison video . Why not have one of each? I can see the advantage in both sizes. Color isn’t an issue for me

@@ClaudeBohls I have to say initially color wasn't an issue for me either, so I had those MOLLE ii pouches on my FILBE, but over time I have to say having matching pouches is aesthetically more pleasing even if I have to sacrifice in terms of carrying capacity, as the MOLLE ii sustainment pouches are larger..but FILBE pouches do look better, and when I put this up for sale I'm also trying to keep in mind what potential buyers might prefer as well. So eventually I settled for matching colors so that it doesn't give off that Frankenstein pack vibe

Where is the link so we can get one? Why didn’t you provide the dimensions in inches ?🙄 99% of your viewers are American We use inches why didn’t you show us what all would fit inside? showing us empty water bottles means nothing Nobody ever in the history of rucking is going to walk around with empty water bottles in a sustainment pouch We need to see to be able to visualize like how a canteen and canteen cup would fit inside how many MRE fit inside
@thatpackguy3 ай бұрын
I don't have a link because i buy most of my gear second hand. I'm european and i work in cm so deal with it lol, and about half of my viewers are from the US, the rest are from all over. Showing you an empty or full water bottle kinda gives you an idea how big the pouch is, i don't have MREs as i am not in the military
