It came to be associated with pureblood status because of the founder's prejudices, which theoretically could have happened to any other House. I once heard someone saying that her ethnicity was more prosocial and community-oriented than others, so if her family was in the Harry Potter universe, perhaps they would have claimed Hufflepuff as the bastion of blood purity. Also, Nazism is by no means the only ideology to ever stress "blood purity". Royalty and nobility all over the world used to marry their cousins and even their siblings to "keep the bloodline pure", just like the Blacks in Harry Potter. Only in relatively recent history have hereditary class systems been abolished anywhere.
