I realize this is an old vid. However, thanks to Proform for omitting operating instructions and leading me to your channel. Thanks for fine tuning my knowledge! Now I can gap my rings with full confidence. I look forward to perusing the rest of your channel.

I also use a little oil in the bore when installing ring & checking the ring gap

That’s not a bad idea and probably a bit easier on the crosshatch pattern.

I was told to turn the tool the opposite way, which made No sense to me. why would you rotate in a way that would push ring upwards? It definitely makes sense to rotate so the wheel drives downward towards plate. seen other videos the other way as well:(
@MikesGarageRoute66
@MikesGarageRoute66 3 ай бұрын
Yep a lot of people do it wrong. The key is to not have any rough edges that can scratch the cylinders.

Shouldn’t you hold the ring on from the other side so that it sits flat on the ring filer base? Or does the ring hang over on that end too?

Hey Mike,you tube vids show many different ways,i have similar looking tool,i was using other side of the tool,took forever to get .008 off.now i see how you do it,do you take off from both sides of the ring or one side like some you tubes say? thanks
@MikesGarageRoute66
@MikesGarageRoute66 3 жыл бұрын
Take off from only one side. It will have better results. Also different ring materials take more turns then others. So the number of turns on the top ring may be different from the second ring. Thank you for watching!

Would you recommend this tool or another one of its copies? I found so many bad reviews on various amazon tools I don’t know what to do.
@MikesGarageRoute66
@MikesGarageRoute66 2 жыл бұрын
This one works perfectly fine. The bad reviews are typically from someone who has never done this before and rushes it. Slow and steady when filling rings and check the ring gap often.

Very true. The best advice is to practice on your old rings first. Then use it on the new ones. Use torque plates as they may a huge difference. Thanks for watching!
