Hi, very useful video. I do understand the need for ID when the names in this case might be the same. But in the case where we know all our records will be unique, do we still need to add this ID column? I am working on uploading biodiversity data and for example I want to do a relation between survey result table and species. I do not think I need to have an ID column as the species table, all entry are unique. Is that correct or is there another reason for the ID column that could still be useful in our case?

Which FMP version would work best with Mac OS 10.15.6? This operating system requires 64 bit apps. My current FMP 10 is a 32 bit app. And will not work on the upgraded computer.

Dear Sunny. Great tutorial. I used it to make my own portal for new visits during the antenatal control of a patient. But, is there a way to update the gestational age of the pregnancy in every consecutive visit when i click on the New record button? I found a formula that calculates GA in weeks and days using LastMenstrualPeriod date and CurrentDate. Currently I have to input LMP date in every record to make the calculation for each new row or visit

Dear Sunny, I used your script in my portal so I could open new records for consecutive visitsfor the same patient. It does work properly. But I need to give the patient a report for each new visit via email or printed layout. I tried several scripts that I found here and there without any success. Can you give me a hand with this? TY

Normally in a NEW flat database, you just make all of the fields. In the this example, do you: 1. Make all the fields first and then select which ones go into each table? OR 2. Make the two tables and populate each separately with their unique fields?

Hi, I'm having some trouble with Filemaker. I have several layouts that each collect unique data, each layout is a separate part of a space ship. I have each layout connected as a relationship with the last layout which is a summary of the whole ship. I then created a field and/or a portal that would reference items from other layouts. It worked, but not well. It worked perfect 1 time. However every future open cell that could be associated to another layout were also populated with the accurate data from the same layout. So I ask... How do you import several primary keys from the same layout onto a separate layout?

I don't have a tutorial for that yet, but you should be looking at security setting in manage > security. And your direction should be to create 2 sets of priviledge set.

I find that the easiest way to make a simple relational database is to get Filemaker 5.5 which can be found cheaply on Ebay. It works with Windows 10 (but not Filemaker Server 5). The early version is much less bloated and easier to understand. I used to have fun programming, but now it's becoming a chore.

You will need to apply the same principle to create "foreign key" for your second table as well. (if they are also 1 to many relationship)

Hello sunny, everything worked very fine with this tutorial but I have insert a print script that will print each content from the prortal row, I can print the first record without any problem but when printing the second record then am getting this error ( " __PkTicketsId " is defined to contain unique values. You must enter a unique value ) my script: set variable [$Ticketid; Value: Tickets::__PkTicketsId] Go to Layout ["Tickets_Print_Layout " (Tickets); Animation:None] Set Field [Tickets::__PkTicketsId; $Ticketid] Print [Restore: Microsoft Print to PDF; With dialog:On] Go to Layout [original layout; Animation:None] I hope you can help.. I don't have a full scope of your database but my feeling is, you should be setting the ___Fk field instead of the PkTicketsld.
