I have a few people ask me These questions 1) why not use TurboTax and File 1040 :- As a Non-Resident Alien you are required to file 1040NR and hence you cannot use Turbo Tax. You can use Sprintax but it charges sometimes, and you cannot file Form 8962( For Health Insurance Marketplace ) using that. 2 ) My University provides Glacier for 1040NR ? Why should I use this ? :- You cannot use if you want to file Form 8962 in Glacier. Also, I heard it does not support multiple W2's.

Thanks for the video ! I have a question. I have a daughter and I paid a lot of money for daycare. My university recommended international students to use sprintax. But I didn't get a refund and They didn't have the option to include the daycare and health insurance information.

How do you fill the Tax treaty?
@MuraliM-jb1jm4 жыл бұрын
Nice work dude. Could you explain more about the steps involving marketplace and 1095 .Also in the next video maybe talk about 401k and stuffs cuz lot of students are stuck on that part.
@muthurpe4 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude ! If you had taken health insurance from the marketplace during the previous year, you would receive form 1095A. Taxact will also ask you if you had taken health insurance from the marketplace so it will provide you the option to fill in those details. Orelse you can also search 1095A, and it will ask you few basic questions. You can fill them by referring to the form 1095A. Few things to remember :- If your income is more than what you had mentioned earlier in your market place application, then there might be a situation where you had to pay and it will be deducted from your tax refund amount. Taxact will also show you this. I am sorry for 401K and stuffs, or state taxes, because I have no experience in it.

Hi Muthu ! Thaks for the video. I have one question, while selecting the 1040 NR filing, for the country of residence for tax purposes you selected India. I thought that was my current country of residence i.e. US. Could you please elaborate what Coutry of residence for tax purposes means in the TaxAct portal.
@muthurpe3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dhruv, I hope that you are a F1 Student, and are less than 5 years in USA. As per the IRS - Determining Tax Residency, we are "Non-Residents for Tax Purposes" and hence we need to select the country which is our permanent residence, which is India. If you are here on any other status or more than 5 years, then you will need to file form 1040, and you are a resident for tax purposes. www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/determining-alien-tax-status

@@muthurpe Thanks for explaining! I have two more questions and would be greatful if you can help me with them: 1. My state of residence has changed since Jan 2021. Should I continue to write my current state of residence or file w.r.t. previous address? 2. Regarding substantial presece, I read that F1 students are exempt ad should not count the number of days they were exempt. I was a student whole of 2020, so Substantial presence would be 0?
@muthurpe3 жыл бұрын
@@dhruvchakervarti9048 1. File with you current residence. When you enter the W2 Form, you would enter the State that you lived in previously. Depending on that, you will file state tax 2. I guess I understood your question right, Yes. F1 Students are exempt as not to calculate Substantial Presence, and Will be considered as Non-Resident for their first 5 years of F1 in USA.
