⚡ 💀 💕 / 💀 💀 💀 Su was born in 1997, so the concert title was 'Legend 1997'. There was also a 'Legend 1999' concert celebrating Yui and Moa's birth year. This version of BABYMETAL Death was from the same concert as their most popular video, 'Gimme Chocolate!!'. It took place the day after Su's 16th Birthday. Usually it's the opening song. It closed the show this time. The crumbling statue was probably inspired by the Justice statue in Metallica's 'And Justice For All' concert. The BABYMETAL team are big fans, and they opened for Metallica in Seoul, South Korea in 2017.

Nice reaction - and I don't think I've seen anybody describing a crucifixion as kawaii before. :-) Legend 1997 was the title of the show - it was December 2013 the day after the lead singer Su-metal's 16th birthday - she was born in 1997, this was her birthday party ... and what better way to celebrate your 16th birthday than to be crucified on stage by your two best friends while 9000 people chant "Death Death Death"? There was a translation of the intro in the description below the video. Opening Translation: "Legend 1997. (referring to the year of Su's birth) It is told that receiving the legendary neck brace from the god of Metal, she shall abandon her human life and be reborn as a goddess. The bloodline which has been passed down from ancient times is destined to be the guide, boarding the ark of time. The apocalypse is prophesied DOOMSDAY comes There remains... little time.." BABYMETAL started in 2010 a a sub-unit of a Jpop Idol group. In 2013 they separated from that group to become an independent band in their own right so a live backing band (the Kami Band) was phased in to support them in live shows starting off just playing the encores and at a couple of festivals from October 2012 and becoming their full time support in all live shows from early in 2014. Legend 1997 was the final stage in BABYMETAL's transition from Jpop Idol group sub-unit. It was also all about Su-metal giving up her human life and existence as a Jpop Idol so that she could be reborn as a Metal Goddess. The song 'BABYMETAL Death' was the first track in their first album (released in 2014) and it is basically all based on a pun where they introduce themselves. The lyrics (there aren't many) are "B-A-B-Y-M-E-T-A-L" "Su-metal death", "Yuimetal death", "Moametal death", "BABYMETAL death". "Death Death Death Death Death Death". There is no TH sound in Japanese so to a Japanese speaker it sounds like they are saying "Su-metal desu", "Yuimetal desu" etc. The word desu (the U is silent) means "I am, you are, we are, it is" etc ... so to them they are simply introducing themselves one by one "I am Su-metal", "I am Yuimetal", "I am Moametal", "We are BABYMETAL". In japan you might introduce yourselves as "LhenJhen TV desu". Most often 'BABYMETAL Death' was the opening song in their concerts - it definitely hypes up the crowd - but without the crucifixion and theatrics. On special occasions (such as this, it being Su-metal's birthday) it was used later in the show - here it was the finale. The opening drum riff is an homage to Metallica's 'One'. The statue crumbling at the end was also an homage to Metallica and their 1989 'Justice For All' tour where they had a statue crumble at the end of their shows. The neck brace pays homage to legendary X Japan drummer Yoshiki who damaged his neck so badly headbanging that he has to wear a neck brace most of the time now to avoid further damage.

I have watched like 4 videos of you now... And i always have to giggle about those BIG shocked pinay eyes when you watched the videos.. Well I see that once you reacted to BabyMetal Death you moved on. Sorry to see because they really are more than that. Frankly I wish they had never even performed it and I cringe whenever some commenter recommends it be cause usually they just want a click bait shock reaction.
