The American Culture has many sides but the leading cause of this is rooted in the "Individualism vs Collectivism" debate. Individualism and collectivism are two contrasting cultural dimensions that describe the degree to which individuals prioritize their personal goals and autonomy over the goals and needs of the collective. In the American society, individualism plays a significant role in shaping the nation's value system. Promotion in the media of Individualism values over the years has only intensified that ideology. If you look back, you see alot of anti-collectivism which started off fighting Classism, Nationalism, etc but eventually started attacking the basic Family-centered culture. Family members were expected to make personal sacrifices for the benefit of the family but we saw that destroyed in the media in promotion of Self-expression, personal freedom, independence, and self-reliance. I think a healthy family needs a balance between these but American Culture has been promoting individualism far too long to the point they don't value Family or Community anymore. This is why other countries look more attractive when wanting to start a family today. I think they found a good balance of women who are individuals but also value family, culture and community.
