Filipino American sisters that choose the Philippines over a life in the west isn't a very common situation, but these two young ladies have decided to pursue futures - at least for now - in their mother's ancestral home. Meet Lauren and her sister Chantel, who now go to college here in the Philippines, as they try to acclimate to a new way of life. These sisters will always be Americans, but they've decided to choose a new path that leads them to the Philippines, so let's see what they think about their new/old home!

One slightly unique thing about the Philippines is how citizenship is determined. If at least one parent is a Filipino citizen at the time of birth, then the child is considered to be Filipino, regardless of the location of the birth. This allows these children to work in the Philippines, own land and also businesses too.
@DoktorLorenz
@DoktorLorenz Жыл бұрын
If one parent is a UK cititzen, then with a few conditions you can apply for British Citizenship for the child usually. www.gov.uk/apply-citizenship-british-parent/born-on-or-after-1-july-2006

@@anubis8680 if a foreign woman gives birth within the USA, then the baby is considered a USA citizen because of nothing less than location. If a Filipina gives birth anywhere in the world, the Philippine government recognizes the child as a citizen. Big difference in my book. US citizens can be born abroad, but there are certain conditions that have to be met.

@@johnnypastrana6727 I've been to a verity of different countries, each has made me think. Like in Italy, they can spend hours eating dinner. You talk to the people your with and enjoy your time. In the US, we complain that it's been 5 minutes and dinner is not on the table. Really helped me slow down and enjoy life. I've been to some poorer countries, like Somalia, that make me more appreciative of what I have. Made me see how much of a waste certain desires are. To quote Sheryl Crow, "It's not getting what you want, it's wanting what you have." Just traveling around the US, you'll see differences. Compare Miami to Boston, or a small town in west Texas. There is a lot to see out there, it's why I love to travel.

Those two words are absent from the American lexicon these days. In fact the more caustic and arrogant they are the better, in their minds. I'll take either of these two women before I'd give a pure-bred American woman the time of day, let alone my heart.

But, you can see they have become infected with feminism. Their goals are to get an education and become self-supporting. It isn't like their focus is to become a good wife and mother. Chicks can't "have it all." And they have become tribalized and their children will be just as much promoting their victimhood status along with all the other BI-POC destroyers of the US. Did you notice that the father lives in the Philippines but the mother is still in the US? That's not passing along family values or submissiveness.

Language can be a use it or lose it deal if it's not your primary language. Learning a language in a vacuum without using it in regular interactions can be tough. In the moment of learning you can understand it at the time. But don't use it and a couple of months later it's all gone.

My wife didn't put any pressure on my kids to learn the local dialect either. My youngest daughter understands Ilokano 'way better than her older siblings but she can't speak a word. The way my wife looked at it, my kids were far better off learning English because English is spoken everywhere; in fact, the Philippines is the 3rd-largest English-speaking country on the planet. I never learned the language either after 42 years of marriage to a Filipina. Just wasn't a priority because 90% of our time was spent in the U.S.

My children were born in North America as well and I used to speak with them in Tagalog at home, however, when they started kindergarten - they spoke English more and then I got lazy I guess, due to the busy life here. Now they are all grown and they only know the very basic tagalog words. They say words like "I am bihis-sing" ( translation - "I am getting dressed") . But I definitely raised my daughter as a traditional Filipina. I am worried that she might not get married, because she is such a homebody and does not "date". When they were young, I spoke tagalog when I scolded them, lol ,they did not understand everything, so it took out the sting:)

@@jamesballard6564 Well, I will respond with a respectfully disagreement with your assessment. Before I came here from Canada my personal Doctor was born and raised in Egypt but received the vast portion of her education in Manilla. Did she just get off a plane in Canada and be accepted as a Doctor in Canada? Yes there is some lengthy hoops to jump through far beyond a 30 minute exam.. My new neighbor in my building here in the Philippines,,, his mother educated in Manilla is a Doctor in Italy, supporting her son back here. So, education in Oxford, LAU, Yale… is useful world wide. This includes the Philippines. In the Philippines they take education very seriously, the percent of people with higher education exceeds anything in the west. And it’s very good value for the money, pennies on the dollar. Just no money or many jobs here in the Philippines

I would post a photo but looks like there's no facility. She actually seems to always have a Fil/Brit boyfriends which I find interesting. Nice interview. Btw, 13 years between me and my wife also. My own cousins are somewhat hesitant about going to Mexico, even though our hometown is literally a 10 minute drive to the rest of family. The main area for a majority of my family are at a border town in Mexico, which is highly combative with cartels trying to get a strong hold for lucrative drug routes to the United States. My aunt lost a leg as a result of being in a crossfire between the cartels and the Mexican Army. If things don't improve with Mexico, which I honestly don't see happening anytime soon. I can always visit my family members in Texas, or my partner's family in Rizal. It was a wonderful experience and I never felt so safe surrounded by strangers.

Its cool to be able to hear the perspective from the children of an American/phil relationship. And it seems like they didn't grow up to be buttheads like so many American women. Thank God for their moms influence. Are their parents still together? Love, peace and applesauce Miss Pea.

I can't believe that Dad hasn't waited for Mum to retire before moving to the Philippines! (Obviously I don't know the circumstances, but couldn't imagine being happy with the tyranny of distance from my significant other). Asian cultural influence/value predominantly have a positive outcome on rearing well adjusted and grateful children. Filial piety foremost.

Sorry to contradict. The woman that introduced me to my wife is back here in Bohol after living in Illinois for the past 12 years. She planned on two months but one week was enough. The dirt, the poverty, the ignorance is just too much. Going home. Not the first Pinay to express this. One girl living in Norway lasted one day. Philippines has a long way to go.

No Lauren, it wasn't about your accent, it was about the terrible western values that were quickly revealed in your answers. It was obvious that you were much more liberal than the girl on the far right on the pool interview. Most people on this channel came here specifically hoping to see people with more traditional values so people who have liberal values quickly stand out.
