Hello Kurt. I am not sure if you have been to Mahogany Market where locals say the eateries there serves the best beef dishes at a lower price and they also serve tawilis which is a fish that you can only find in Tagaytay because they can only catch it from the Taal Lake.

Wow! Kurt, nakatatakam naman yung Buko Pie at Bulalo (Buko Pie and Bulalo looked so appetizing). It’s quite funny that you literally translated the American expression, “Holy Cow!” into “Banal na Baka!” 😆😆 Filipinos don’t use the expression “Holy Cow!” but the nearest Filipino expression equivalent to that would be, “Anak ng Tipaklong!” the literal translation is “Son of a Grasshopper!” No real hard meaning, but the phrase appears to have been adopted as a means to avoid using obscene or indecent language. Anyway, thank you again for virtually taking us all to Taal lake and showing us the spectacular view. It’s mesmerizing (nakabibighani)! 😊😊
@tagalogkurt6 ай бұрын
Hahah oo nga we used to use "banal na baka" as a joke when I lived in Northern Luzon because the idiom does not translate at all hahah. Just like how "son of a grasshopper" doesn't translate to English lol

11:06 That is a good combination. The same concept with Kare Kare except instead of patis, I like the fried bagoong with calamansi. you take the some bagoong with the tip of your spoon put some on the oxtail and eat with rice mixed with Kare Kare souce and vegetables.
@winniereyes81106 ай бұрын
Kurt, to complete your Bulalo experience, squeeze some kalamansi on your patis, dip your beef in the sawsawan (mixture of your fish sauce/kalamanasi) ... umhm.. yum.. enjoy! 👍😊

Hi Kurt, I’m a new subscriber from Texas. Love your content of going to various places, try out local dishes, and reviews in fluent Tagalog. Ignore a comment below as this guy didn’t get your sense of humor. I do and I am sure that most of us do. Have fun exploring the Philippines and interacting with the locals.
@jessicaal4156 ай бұрын
11:12 you want to add veggies to every spoon or bite to balance it out. Usually bok choy and string beans. With the small bowl of soup, usually the meat and veggies go on top or on the side of your rice. Then you dampen your otherwise dry white rice with some broth from your personal bowl, frequently throughout the meal. Others take some broth from the personal bowl and sip the soup throughout the meal. Same practice can be taken when eating anything with soup, sinigang, tinola, even adobo and other stews. Having a personal bowl with your main plate at meals😉 It’s customary to also have dried ulam on the side with your soup and rice. Think fried fish or meats, even grilled. This is where the term “pares” came from. It’s soup (usually the broth where the meat was boiled from , topped with garnishing like green onion) then the stewed meat and gravy and the garlic or plain rice. Pares simply means pair or “pairing”

Your in my neck of the woods now. We have been living here for 5 years now. You are welcome to come by for a visit. We are near Sonja's garden. We love the weather here, seldom need to use the AC. The volcano was one of the reasons we moved here. I'm a volcano kind of guy. The land around the lake and volcano are some of the most expensive land in the Philippines. I love Buko pie.

Buko pie is not just coconut......it is YOUNG COCONUT...Many westerners misplaced filipino culture because they refused to explore and delve into it...Filipinos are excellent when it comes to classifying coconut....most in fact we're the only ones of the many coconut producers in the world who distinguishes young coconuts as the best for eating and drinking the juice. All westerners are used to drinking and eating "old-age" coconut which is hard and the juice is fermentedly sweet....
