And mad props to Jackie for having an open mind enough to appreciate the balut. Most people get freaked out at just the thought of it. To answer Kimmy's question about why the adobo turns solid when cold, good chicken stock has gelatin in it from the bones that simmer, that’s what makes it so rich. So when it’s cold, it solidifies like Jell-O, but liquifies when it’s hot.

I remember my Chef told me that you can tell if the broth/stock is really good when you fridge it and it becomes gelatinous by the time you take it out of the fridge. The stock/broth are made from either chicken or beef bones simmered for hours with aromatics usually carrot, onions, celery, and herbs until it releases all the flavors from the bones. It can either be roasted(brown stock) or just blanched (white stock)

That is by far the most successful first tasting of a balut a foreigner has ever done and that beer is the cherry topping of the experience. I’m incredibly impressed and shocked with her reaction.

I'm happy you did Champurrado. My mom puts a scoop of peanut butter when cooking it which makes it taste like a Reeses peanut butter cup and served it with bacon for that salty flavor instead of tuyo or dilis. The peanut butter thickens the champurrado so if you like it more soupy instead of dry, then just add a little more water.

Oh wow! I haven't tried adding peanut butter to champorado, but it makes perfect sense. That's genius.

I like that when they do episodes like this, they are respectful to the culture that they are representing with their food! Its so easy for us to view other cultures food as gross or weird but they don't frame it that way and i love that about smosh!

What people don't realize is that Balut is not even every Filipino's go to snack. In fact, A LOT of us pinoys (including me) don't like the idea of eating an almost formed duckling. Jackie was such a G for this.

Filipino here. I was surprised at fried lumpia turon with ground meat, too! It's an uncommon variation of the dish. I can relate to Olivia's reaction. I would have the same reaction, as well.

Kimmy is so nice that even when trying to mess up the food by combining savory and sweet she ends up making a fusion of an arguably better dish overall. This could've been an extra inside joke in her funeral roast if this video aired first. Keep smiling Kimmy!

I’m half Filipino who grew up in the Philippines. Love this so much and brings back a lot of childhood memories for me. I just wanted to comment that I’ve never seen anyone make Turon with meat in it. It’s typically made with banana and sometimes a bit of jackfruit but I’ve never had it with meat in it. Lumpia is the one made with meat and vegetables inside.
@ushijimawakatoshi1429 Жыл бұрын
I think they just did that in attempt to put a twist on it (like they did on the refrigerated Adobo). Based on their reactions, it looks like it worked. Now that I think about it, my taste would like the sweetness of bananas with the savoriness of meat.

The moment I saw balut my mouth instantly watered, so the white part on the bottom is edible just a weird texture (it’s hard/chewy, and flavorless) but the main part is the fetus (add vinegar for that extra flavor)❤❤❤ Love you Kimmy!!!
