@@d-v1199 Nope, no reasonable Filipino parent would give a child balut for lunch, it's a street food not a meal unless prepared as such. It's most likely the smell, westerners can't handle unfamiliar smell and don't usually understand the umami palette of MOST foreign cuisine that isn't european or latin american. Our meals are not indian curry level of extremes in smell, but when the dish consist of vinegar, soy sauce or fish sauce it can be understable. And children can't know better if they're raised without understanding of other cultures.

it's probably super old, but hey, it's your neighbor from Indonesia, we have the very thing combined lumpia and turon, we call it piscok {abbreviated from pisang coklat, which is banana chocolate), it's banana in lumpia with chocolate sprinkles between them, deep fried and tossed in caramel sauce. Kimmy just remade our food without knowing and that's amazing coincidences, and it's lovely to see everyone's liking it. We don't use tangy sweet spicy sauce though, or maybe we should

I love how even when Kimmy tried to be mean and made a "bad dish." It still comes out nice. That's just so her 🤣. I'm so glad they didn't try and sabotage the food but instead celebrated the culture. And mad props to Jackie for having an open mind enough to appreciate the balut. Most people get freaked out at just the thought of it. To answer Kimmy's question about why the adobo turns solid when cold, good chicken stock has gelatin in it from the bones that simmer, that’s what makes it so rich. So when it’s cold, it solidifies like Jell-O, but liquifies when it’s hot.

13:15 fun fact about Olivia saying the chicken broth makes it gelatinous in the fridge is that broth is made from the chicken bones simmered for a long time. I remember my Chef told me that you can tell if the broth/stock is really good when you fridge it and it becomes gelatinous by the time you take it out of the fridge. The stock/broth are made from either chicken or beef bones simmered for hours with aromatics usually carrot, onions, celery, and herbs until it releases all the flavors from the bones. It can either be roasted(brown stock) or just blanched (white stock)

I'm happy you did Champurrado. My mom puts a scoop of peanut butter when cooking it which makes it taste like a Reeses peanut butter cup and served it with bacon for that salty flavor instead of tuyo or dilis. The peanut butter thickens the champurrado so if you like it more soupy instead of dry, then just add a little more water.
