After this whole series of Filipino languages, I find it very interesting that how 9 all sounds like siyam in most languages, which is different from Formosan languages in the north and languages in Indonesian and Malaysia that are mostly some variation of siwa. Even in most parts of the Oceania, like Fijian and Tongan, it's ciwa and hiva. If Sagart's theory is correct, siwa came from abbreviating *RaCepiSepat ‘five-and-four’, where *RaCep was the original Austronesian 5 before being replaced by lima the word for hand, and siwa is basically a corrupted Sepat. 7 pitu came from the middle part of *RaCepituSa ‘five-and-two’, and 8 walu came from the last part of *RaCepatelu ‘five-and-three’.
