Maria Clara at Ibarra's concept of a GenZ going back time reminds me of both Splash Splash Love and Scarlet Heart Ryeo... I love both Korean dramas but as a Filipino, I'm inclined to love MC&I more. I am also proud that PH dramas is finally making a mark in international scene.

Noli and El Fili are indeed a must-read books. I remember how I ignored these novels way back my high school days. Thanks to Binibining Mia's stories and Bb. Mia herself for intoducing me how important and interesting our history is. For now, I am currently waiting for the next episode of MCAI, you must also try to watch other hisorical dramas like Ilustrado, Goyo, Amaya, Heneral Luna and many more😊

Local networks should adapt the western format of releasing a series limited to seasons that has like 10 or so episodes each then take a break in production between seasons. That way, quality will have a significant upgrade because it'll have more time for post-production unlike daily series that overstretches its story.
@mangotar0
@mangotar0 Жыл бұрын
Yes but local networks are greedy, they prioritise on releasing many episodes just to attach as many sponsorships. So it always ends up being quantity > quality. Local networks mindset is its easy to make lots of episodes if the quality is shit, because at the end they get easy money. That's why Filipino dramas are terrible in production. Also most Filipinos are unfortunately easily contented with simple things, making producers complacent, which results in low quality products. If people weren't so easily contented, then people would strive for much better results, and the Philippines in general would be developing much better in any area.

GMA slowly adapting it. All their series are now 3-6 months. Maria Clara at Ibarra will run for only 5 months. I hope they just finish Noli as season one then take a break then come back in season 2 for El fili continuation

@@mangotar0 hindi rin kasi feasible sa Pinas yung ganun kasi ang pagkaka-alam ko, hindi sila katulad ng mga broadcasting companies sa ibang bansa. eh halos sa Pinas ka lang nakakita na broadcasting network siya rin ang producer ng show at talent management ng mga artista. unlike sa US na more on airtime placement ang mga channels nila, which they can afford kasi malaki ang viewership sa US. kaya ayun, walang network wars and celebs always get the change to work with other celebs, hindi yung sila-sila lang din. not sure kung ganun din sa japan and korea. pero one thing is for sure naman is they also get to work with other celebs unlike satin na more on pag kapamilya, kapamilya lang.

I think GMA and other Media Industries should produce more historical dramas so that every Filipino remembers how our national heroes fought for the Philippines' independence. I am hoping that Noli Me Tangere is the first step of it and that they'll continue to produce high-quality shows in the future.

You will only understand the series if you dig deeply the essence of its ideas and history. There's more to Noli than comparing it to other series in Korea.

That’s true but I also think that there are always similarities between cultures/countries not only the Philippines and Korea it’s just that sometimes these are what we have on some of the media/social media right now. For sure there are similarities (and differences) w/n SEA (how we are colonized), b/n Asia, and other groups/subgroups or between British/Spanish/American/colonies. I wish that it was brought up even just a passing remark (that there’s really these similarities and differences) and to not just solely compare it to Korea. But of course, her content is focused on Filipino and Korean so. For example, Vietnam’s a French colony, they have French Baguette (localized ofcourse - Banmi if I’m not mistaken) and probably before they would switch languages too from French to Vietnamese.
@shamahuta6648
@shamahuta6648 Жыл бұрын
that may be true if you want to dig deeper to the story but nationality is not a requirement to be able to emphasize with the story and characters of a show, may it a filipino watching kdrama or korean watching a filipino show. for me she meets the standard as, someone who understand and speak filipino and who lived in philippines as well and dude read the book! she's even more filipino than filipinos out there who values other cultures than their own. Also she cant help comparing it to a kdrama since she's korean as well, dont wanna say the r word but your pretty r lol
@ehet8487
@ehet8487 Жыл бұрын
You havr a point naman but I think there's nothing wrong with the way she compares it with kdrama, it's not that she's nitpicking MCI but she's just saying that what happened in Noli is relative to the situation of Korea during the same decade and so she finds it very relating to Korean if they would watch it so, that's my take so for me there's nothing wrong with what she said about it at all.

Wow ayan na naman tayo sa gatekeeping. Hindi naman nya kinumpara yun nmt sa kdramas, ang ikinumpara nya, yun mci. For all we know, baka nga nakuha pa nila yun ideas sa mga kdrama and jdrama na ganito ang tema. Also, nasakop rin ng iba ibang bansa ang Korea kaya may similarities pa rin.

Napanood ko rin po yung Mr. Sunshine. It's one of my favorite historical drama and I literally cried on the last episodes. Being a historical nerd, highly recommended po ito at marami kayong matutunan sa ating bansang Pilipinas. Also, you can learn a lot of "deep tagalog words" that even myself never heard of it. They have a special showing here in KZbin sometimes, particularly around August (national heroes day) or near rizal's death anniversary. quick fact, I think you got confused as to why Padre Damaso referred their country as "Las Filipinas" instead of only "Filipinas" or "Pilipinas" it is because originally, when Philippines was discovered by King Philip II of Spain he named it as "Las Islas Filipinas" or in tagalog "the Philippine Isles" which in their current timeline is was shortened as "the Philippines" or "Las Filipinas"

There is a twist in this version of Noli in that Klay (pronounced the way you say Sky) enters the novel Noli initially as an observer to how the novel should transpire as punishment by her teacher for plagiarizing her report on the Novel. In the make believe world of Noli, she becomes involved in its twists and turns. She even helps the main characters Ibarra and Maria Clara (portrayed by another talented actress Julie Ann San Jose). Klay herself becomes the love interest of another fictional Noli character Fidel. Both Klay and Fidel gives the tragic novel its light moments. I really admire you for you very intelligent yet entertaining vlogs on Filipino life. Thank you Jessica.

"Noli Me Tangere" is a novel by the Philippine national hero, Jose Rizal. The characters in the novel do not necessarily symbolize specific individuals but, rather, represent larger societal forces, classes, and issues. Here are some of the key characters in the novel and their corresponding representations: 1. Crisostomo Ibarra - Represents the Filipino educated class that emerged during the Spanish colonial period. 2. Elias - Represents the Filipino masses and their struggles against colonial oppression. (Ibarra/Elias duality represents two dominant thoughts and approaches on how to achieve lasting peace) 3. Padre Damaso - Represents the corrupt Spanish friars and clergy who abused their power and oppressed the Filipino people. 4. Maria Clara - Represents the idealized Filipino woman who embodies virtuousness, innocence, and beauty while also being trapped in a society that oppresses her. 5. Sisa - Represents the poor and suffering Filipino mother who embodies the pain and suffering of the Filipino people under colonial oppression. 6. Elías' brother - Represents the Filipino revolutionaries who struggled against Spanish colonial rule. 7. Consolacion and Victorina - they both symbolize the Filipinos who aspire to be like the Spanish colonizers. Victorina de los Reyes de Espadaña, the ambitious and pretentious wife of the town's deputy mayor, symbolizes the Filipinos who are desperate to assimilate and be fully accepted by the Spaniards. She constantly tries to improve her social status by adopting the Spanish customs and lifestyle, even at the expense of her own culture and morality. On the other hand, Consolacion, a former upper-class woman who has fallen on hard times, symbolizes the Filipinos who were once part of the privileged and elite Spanish-influenced society but have now lost their status. She serves as a reminder that the Spanish-influenced social structure of the Philippines is not a natural order and that, like her, others can easily fall from grace. Together, Consolacion and Victorina reflect the novel's critique of the misguided desires and aspirations of Filipinos who blindly follow the Spanish colonizers, resulting in the erosion of their own culture and identity. They represent the dangers of internalized oppression, colonial mentality, and assimilation. 8. Pil Tasyo - symbolizes the intellectual and enlightened Filipino who recognizes the need for change and reform in Philippine society. He is a well-educated, wealthy man who is disillusioned with the injustices and corruption he sees in the Philippines under Spanish colonial rule. Tasyo is a character who continually expresses his thoughts on various subjects, including politics, religion, and the arts. He is often marginalized by other characters in the novel, who view him as eccentric and crazy because of his nonconformity to social customs and norms. He is. a representation of an intellectual who recognizes the need for reform reflects Rizal's own views on the importance of education and critical thinking in the pursuit of social progress and national identity. His character also serves as a critique of the lack of intellectual freedom and institutionalized oppression of critical thought during the Spanish colonial period. 10. Kap Tiago - symbolizes the Filipino elite who, despite their wealth, connections, network and power, are still under the control of their colonial masters, the Spanish, and subject to their whims and caprice. He represents the wealthy Filipinos who benefit from the Spanish colonial system and who, like him, use their wealth to gain favor and influence in government. Through the character of Kapitan Tiago, Rizal highlights the limits of the Filipino upper class in challenging the Spanish colonial system, since they have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo. He represents the ambivalence of the Filipino elite toward the nationalist cause and their complicity in perpetuating the oppressive system. Note that while these characters symbolize certain societal forces or issues, they are also complex and multidimensional, with their own personal struggles, motivations, and histories.

With the sea of extremely cliché Telenovelas nowadays, this was highly refreshing. For me, personally, a sign that a show was good and entertaining is when me and my father discussing things about the story and "what if's" that are missing in almost, if not, all Telenovelas nowadays. One point I'd like to make as well was aside from the story itself, it's storytelling reminds me so much of a not so popular anime titled Gintama. One good trait I personally liked about these two is how the story doesn't just revolve around it's protagonist/s. They also delve deeper into the other characters, literally everyone has some sort of introduction, making the viewers have options on the characters they could like or relate to aside from the protagonist/s. And this is coming from a modern audience who mostly watch anime. All I'm saying is I love this show. Some additions and twists can be quite annoying (for me, at least), but it's pretty good overall. Definitely something like Gintama for me, a.k.a something I would recommend to someone without the slightest bit of hesitation. 😊

I suspect a lot of the series was shot in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan. It would actually be a good idea that you shoot a vlog there Jessica. it's a resort town where the owner transported old colonial era houses and restored them and made a whole mini town resort out of it.

Actually it was shot in Vigan, parts of Intramuros and in multiple places across Illocos Norte. I looked it up it seems they haven't done any scenes in Bataan...yet. Maybe they will for next season dealing with El Filibusterimo

Back then about 1997 when I was in high school, both Noli and Fili are my faves. I always imagine the storyline and the characters even if I didn't watch their theater and drama adaptations on TV. Seems my fingers are kinda wet on most of the pages as I always turn on the favorite chapters. Sorry for that.😅 But hey, this historical drama series is very interesting and it relives my geeky childhood, especially when Klay roams and makes some messes around the drama plus her vocabulary that confuses everybody 🤣, and then new character Fidel always teases her till they became more than friends. 😂 Can't wait to finish this before the much more anticipated Voltes V Legacy will replace them, which is also my favorite to binge-watch sooner. Hope you'll do, too. P.S. Also, you'll wonder why "sunny side up-headed" Padre Salvi and friends is always making waves on the current world like Dora. Check them out. 🤣🤣🤣
