What steel did you use for this build? Also what was the starting thickness of the bar stock?

Hey mate as you don't talk what grade of steel do you use and how thick
@SugarcreekForge5 жыл бұрын
Hi David - the steel is ATS-34 Stainless. It is 0.10 (2.5mm) thick
@ЕвгенийИвахник7 жыл бұрын
Nice and flexible indeed)
@waynebeebe99667 жыл бұрын
So you did not harden the steel but tempered it so it would be flexible?
@SugarcreekForge7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I heat treated the steel to dead hard and then tempered it back so it would be flexible.

@@SugarcreekForge I really want one, any chance you could make one for me ? If so what would one of those cost me ? Cheers Ray
@SugarcreekForge4 жыл бұрын
@@rayjudd4916 Yes, sir. I could do that. It would run $170 - $200 depending on the materials and with a kydex sheath.

SugarcreekForge Hi whilst I appreciate you are a true artist/craftsman, that at the minute, is a little too much for me. I will hopefully save some pennies and get back to you in the future. Cheers Ray
@SugarcreekForge4 жыл бұрын
@@rayjudd4916 Thanks, Ray. I understand that completely, my friend. It is hard with making them by hand and heat-treating stainless steel to keep the price down. It would be an honor to make one for you sometime in the future. Your interest in having one of my knives is a true compliment. Thank you. Cheers, Tim

@OLSCVideos7 жыл бұрын
Can I get the type steel you used, it said A39 was that it? Also what are hte dimensions and what was your temps on heat treat and temper?
@SugarcreekForge7 жыл бұрын
Hi John - Yes you can get it. It is called AEB-L. You can find the heat treating instructions online. I always just google, "heat treating AEB-L" and you will find several sites with the info you need. Good luck!
@NuManXplore8 жыл бұрын
Great looking knife! I might have missed it in the video, but how thick was the stee?
@SugarcreekForge8 жыл бұрын
+NUMan14 Thank you very much. I need to double check on the thickness, but it was thin. .070 - .100 range for sure.
@stephanschroeder43615 жыл бұрын
Does it require a HT or is it fine as is?
@SugarcreekForge5 жыл бұрын
I heat treated the blank before I ground it. Since the blade is so thin and long, it is tough to keep them from warping if you heat treat after you grind it.
@conleycustomironwork32279 жыл бұрын
Cool
@matthewroughgarden84045 жыл бұрын
No temper?
@tygahgriffin83528 жыл бұрын
Does it hold its edge and does it flex
@SugarcreekForge8 жыл бұрын
Yes it does both. That is the tricky part about heat treating and tempering them correctly.
@CraftingDepths9 жыл бұрын
can it be used for freshwater fish too?

Forge? All i saw you do was cut out a steel blank
@SugarcreekForge6 жыл бұрын
Hi Skyanimal - A very good question. Since this knife was made out of ATS-34 stainless steel, it cannot be forged. It has to be made by stock removal. I cut it out, grind it to shape, and then heat treat it. It is not my favorite way to make knives... but it is how to make stainless steel ones.
@skyanimal4936 жыл бұрын
Totally understand, I just get a little upset when I see people cut out knife blanks and say they're "handmade" or "forged".
