Seeing that classic locomotive and that classic car at 8:23 makes for a great photo. It could easily be the 1950's and you wouldn't know (aside from the newer cars behind them LOL).

But still, all in all, almost every former SP & WP line throughout Calif, still have the original signals including lenses, gates, bells, etc. Why can't it be like that everywhere else?
@CoasterFan210512 жыл бұрын
Ok, I also noticed that they changed the horn on it. Didn't this one used to have an M3 and does 100 still have the P5?

Один кайф слушать на эти звонки, на гудок Emd-f7a, а так же на проезд по переезду. В общем видео супер.

Why did they re-number that one to 10?

Well the third crossing has a weird light setup that sort of looks like a cantilever

So sad. The Elder Creek Rd crossing in Sacramento had these type of signals you see at the beginning of the video (originally masts without gates, gates & gate base added later on) & now they've been replaced with boring newer UP signals. (sigh) That's life. Things wear out.
@CATransitFan1710 жыл бұрын
Those signals were gated from the beginning. That's just how the SP installed them in the late 60s to the mid 70s.
@38yofrmut10 жыл бұрын
CATransitFan17 I think you're referring to the crossing in Santa Paula. I'm talking about the original signals that were at the following crossings in Sacramento & Elk Grove: Elder Creek Rd, Calvine Rd, Sheldon Rd, Bond Rd, & Grant Line Rd, having grown up in both places. I remember distinctly all 5 of these crossings were gateless until about '76 or '77. & that's when I remember seeing SP workers attatching/installing these gate bases & these particular type of crossing arms, sometimes referred to as "triangle" gates, at these crossings. Because there was a big safety concern back then in the mid 70s w/making these crossings more safer. & someone my parents knew who worked for SP, said this was a more cost-effective way to improve theses crossings.

is this part of the fillmore & western still in operation? i have heard in the past the shortline having problems with the county government.

Love that crossing with the unique cantilever. Those first signals look like raco signals, but the bells sound JUST like the ones on my video of Red Lion Road. Do you know what they are?

Why did some of the crossing signals went off for a brief second and went back on, is there a malfunction or something?

what's the deal with the crossing fetish? I thought I was going to be watching a clip of a train and instead someone apparently wanted to take pictures of crossings with deafening bells. At least you have them, most of the crossings around here only have wood crossbucks...hell, most of the line through this area still has semaphore signals installed by the monon in 1910, lmao.
@Matheny195010 жыл бұрын
I have such a "fetish"! Have considered dueling or out-of-sync crossing bells music since I was able to hear them in my childhood. I am deaf today.
@38yofrmut10 жыл бұрын
Because signals go with trains. That's why lots of model RR layouts have working signals. & these vintage signals are neat! Especially to railroad fans & traffic engineers.
@Matheny195010 жыл бұрын
***** Another "fetish" I have is for oscillating headlights which we just don't see anymore, and that darling old #101 had them! I wanted to see the lights sweep the tracks at night.
@Rebel966810 жыл бұрын
I suppose I just take the signals for granted. I've never seen any except for the old mechanical kind around here. Most of the old telegraph poles are still up on the line through here and still have the old glass insulators on them ya see in antique stores everywhere o_O.
@WheatShaw8 жыл бұрын
it most definitely is a fetish I pretend the flashing lights are boobies and the rest of the body doesn't matter.
